View Full Version : getting ready to choose a host
jeff_dewitt 03-20-2002, 02:30 PM hey everyone...I've been lurking for about 2 weeks now, trying to get as much info as I can..I'm getting ready to choose a host, and I sort have it narrowed down to these, based on comments in these forums..
site5.com
alwayswebhosting.com
tera-byte.com
liquidweb.com (like features on this one, but not comments I've seen.
so many to choose from, so touch decision..I'm creating an art gallery, plus hosting 2-3 personal sites..
looking for any advice and/or help..
thanks in advance..jeff
HostingDirect 03-20-2002, 02:47 PM Jeff,
Sorry for the post if this is really your final list but I did notice that http://hostingmatters.com is not on your list and I did not know if you had looked at them yet. They have very good prices and great support.
I would suggest poking around their forums to get an feel for their knowledge and to see how satisfied their customers are. I know I have enjoyed working with them.
Change 03-20-2002, 02:47 PM I've been hosting 8 domains with Site5 for about 2 months now and I'm a very satisfied customer. Looking at the feedback to Alwayswebhosting and their offers though, I'd seriously consider them as well. Don't know much about the other hosts you mentioned.. a friend of mine hosts with tera-byte and is happy with them I believe.
Martie 03-20-2002, 02:56 PM The choices have become SO overwhelming when selecting a good host, because there are a ton of them out there now.
I think a deciding factor for the consumer, ONCE theyve narrowed some choices down is to send a few emails, and then evaluate features/pricing...it all boils down to:
Who meets your needs the best?
Good Luck.:)
avara 03-20-2002, 03:01 PM You might also want to consider Ventures Online. Just some general recommendations when signing up with a new host:
1. Pay monthly and NOT yearly, in case anything goes wrong you won't lose more than a month or two of fees
2. Make sure they offer a 30 day money back aguarantee
3. Send a test email to sales or support. If it isn't responded to within 24 hours, move on to the next host. Ideally, it should be responded to on the same day or no later than 12 hours. At least IMHO.
UKHostTalk 03-20-2002, 03:29 PM chosing a host is always hard, ive heard soem good things about splashhost and mchost.
And i definitely agree with an earlier post, pay monthly rather than annually, especially if it is an expensive package

With unlimited bandwidth these guys look the best value - you can't go wrong ;)

okihost 03-20-2002, 05:40 PM Also go to www.umlimband.com to get a better irdea of what to stay away from.. Unlimited Space and Unlimited Bandwidth are a couple to stay clear of. But I would stay away from anything on www.unlimband.com, again they will give you a good idea of what to look out for.. Good Luck..
MGCJerry 03-20-2002, 05:46 PM My friend is using liquidweb to host his website, and he is satisfied with them so far. Hes been hosting with them for about 3 weeks.
ReuvenNY 03-20-2002, 05:56 PM Just like you I have been struggling with a search for a host, made a few mistakes, and finally landed with alwayswebhosting.com .
The company is pretty new, but offers a very decent package/price. Some people are uptight about unlimited bandwidth (which alwayswebhosting.com offers) but I personally believe that it all boils down to people - if they are above board and treating their customers with respect - they do it with any bandwidth. If they are crooks - may the "force" be with you...! Ronnie, the owner, so far, has been exceptionally professional and helpful. I can call him if the situation warrants, and for me it is very important.
I would whole heartedly recommend trying alwayswebhosting.com.
Reuven
