is there any study done as to what clients prefer...when it comes to hosting...

I mean..is it unix , linux, NT or other types...

Any latest or old quatative studies or research done on this issue...

Pls give me some pointers to that...

I guess it depends on what the customer is after, and what they are used to.
In my experience *nix hosting is cheaper than windows so many may got for it for that reason.
Why not run a poll on here for customers?
