View Full Version : Transfering my domain and my site is down!
Postmaster 05-26-2005, 05:57 AM I'm in the process of transfering my domain to godaddy however now my site is down!!! I had an email sent to me which I accpeted for the transfer. Is it normal for a site to be down during domain transfer because I didn't encounter this problem before.
prolifix 05-26-2005, 07:04 AM On godaddy, did you put the correct dns information in.
sc
Postmaster 05-26-2005, 07:08 AM I chose the option to keep my current DNS information, when I requested the transfer.
mdadnan 05-26-2005, 07:39 AM Do a whois for your domain at www.whois.sc and let us know:
1. Is your domain now at Godaddy.com or it is transferred to your new registrar?
2. What nameservers domain whois show?
3. If your domain is at Godaddy.com and still has the same nameservers that you intended then do you think there is a problem with your webhost?
Basically if your domain has nameservers correctly listed at domain whois, your website shouldn't be down.
RofyHost 05-26-2005, 07:52 AM normally if you choosed to keep your existing name servers then the transfer has nothing to do with your downtime, check with your host!
Good luck,
Postmaster 05-26-2005, 07:57 AM My domain transfer still hasn't been approved by my current registrar. So I can't understand why it's down... Do you really think it could be the host? I recently moved from shared hostage to semi dedicated.
RofyHost 05-26-2005, 08:32 AM have you moved your host while transfering your domain ?? if so then your name servers are pointing to the old host "which should have deleted your account" that is probably why your site is down, and if this is the case, you will have to wait until the transfer is completed to change the name servers because domains are locked when transfering.
Postmaster 05-26-2005, 09:42 AM I chnged the name servers before I moved the domain..and that was on the 24th, maybe they haven't propergated yet?
mdadnan 05-26-2005, 10:13 AM you said you moved from shared to semi-dedicated, are you sure both of these acounts use the same nameservers?
Postmaster 05-26-2005, 11:14 AM my shared hosting is closed, I have moved to semi-dedicated my domain is registered with someone else and I changed the Name servers to point. Then a day later I transfered the domain which I'm still waiting for to go through... I changed the name servers on the 24th, maybe it never propergated yet? Or is the transfer the root of the problem?
Bashar 05-26-2005, 12:15 PM what does www.dnsreport.com show?
could be propagation issue
Postmaster 05-26-2005, 02:10 PM Thats funny my site is back up now! It's seems to be going off and on, what could be the problem?
mdadnan 05-26-2005, 05:06 PM my first guess is your webhost is having some problems.
kpsservices 05-26-2005, 10:37 PM ussually when you transfer a domain name the loosing register does not delete the dns and the receiving register keeps all the settings in tack. Whenever i transfer a domain all the settings remain constant. Ask your hosting company if they are having issues and also ping the dns settings to see if they are resolving or not.
Website Rob 05-26-2005, 11:19 PM Remember also, it can take 5 - 7 days for the transfer to complete to a new Registrar. And that's "after" you have replied to the transfer confimation eMail.
