I have a site that gets 25,00o visitors per month.
I thought perhaps I should move to a dedicated server but my programmer says it's too much of a hastle to manage it.
Says he would have to be the server administrator - is this a big deal ?

The number of hits a site gets really does not say whether a dedicated server is needed or not. I usually base it on bandwidth and disk space. If you are using 50+ GB of bandwidth monthly & over 1GB of disk space, then a dedicated server would probably be a better solution than virtual.

If you don't have experience administrating a server, then yes it is a very big deal. If you are dependant on control panels to manage your server, it's not a good thing. If you seriouly want to get a dedicated server, I would go with a managed server at least until you (or your programmer) feel comfortable enough handle the administration tasks on your own.

I'm sure several people here will tell you it's easy to do, and that with webmin and a hosting control panel, you can do everything. However, most of these people would not know what to do if something breaks and they can't get to their control panels to fix it.

Total bandwidth : 2703208.42 kilobytes for Feb.
What's that in GB ?

My site is only 120 meg in size.

That's just over 2 1/2 gigs.

Thanks Dan, looks like I'm a long way from needing a dedicated server.
You've really put my mind at rest :D
