Does anyone have any ideas on how I can start driving some good traffic to my site, www.dnforum.com ? I think I have fairly good position on search engines (google), and I did trade links with some domain-related sites (including www.domainconquest.com www.urlhog.com www.webexplode.com ), but still, I opened the forums about 5 days ago and not much going on.. I had the site open longer than that with a different forum software not vBulletin. Hmm.

I would suggest going over to sitepoint.com and checking out some of their articles about how to promote your website.

The information is very useful.

There's a whole lot of people reading newsgroups still.

Perhaps you could try dropping a message in the related groups: alt.domain-names.* for example.

One of the best ways to promote a forum is to be active yourself. Be as helpful and friendly as you can possibly be and let it be known via a signature or forum title that you are the owner. Also, start threads related to the topic of the forum and encourage people to post their opinions. Start goofy off topic threads like; Where do you live.. what is your current desktop.. Introduce yourself.. etc. It will all promote conversation and in turn loyalty. Loyalty == word of mouth advertising. Create a "community" by encouraging the aspects of a community. Outside of the forum itself, be active on related forums, sites, newsgroups, etc and put the site in your sig. It will take a while to get it rolling but ppl will eventually come.

try to post your link in some good hosting sites like verio,rackspace etc.and also in major domain registration companies/resellers. You may get good replies.
