I've been considering offering this for a while, and we'll see how it goes. It seems like some people are looking for management for their servers, such as applying kernel updates, and upgrading to ext3. Would anybody be interested in outsourcing an "admin team" for $125/month/server. We would do what's normally required of a managed server, but will not provide support to your clients like bobcares.com (We are not them.)
Operating Systems We Hope To Support:
Debian GNU
Redhat
--- Maybe, En Garde
FreeBSD
--- Maybe, OpenBSD
I would like to know how many people are interested in an offer like this. Most datacenters will manage your server for around $200 more than what you're paying, so this is a little cheaper. I'm hoping to assemble a 5 person admin team, with a client:admin ratio of 3:1(this will not be a full time job). This means that if 10 people express interest, I will set everything up.
Please PM or Email me, if you interested. I'm only looking for people who are seriously interested in this offer, as it's a large investment of time.

You are putting the cart before the horse.
You are offing a service with pricing in order to validate your concept. Yet you have no support staff to facilitate the service. See my point.
If you intend to offer this then you have to have things in place. What type of SLA are you going to offer? What type of insurance are you going to offer your clients if their box goes down and they have 2000 screaming clients calling them? What makes you qualified to remotly manage a box or a rack of boxes? Why would I want to turn over the management of my boxes to someone I dont know? how do you intend to build creditibility within the community?
These are questions that have to be answered.
yes, a DC will change $200 but they CAN answer these questions and more.
Think it through, realy think it. Then put a plan together. Build a site FULLY. Have your people in place and ready. Then come back to the table.
If you cant do all of that or answer those questions, then you have alot of thinking to do.
I'm not bashing the concept or you, just I have set up, owned or run 6 different companies. It's more than just making an offer on a board.

To see if there's any interest ;)
The idea has been thought out, but like you said- there is a trade of convenience for cash (and sometimes more than that.) Therefore I wanted to see if anybody would be interested in outsourcing a management staff for their servers. It's a matter of testing a market to see if there's any interest, and then deciding whether to pursue that field.
All good questions, and I'll try and get an answer to them, if interest is expressed.

All I am saying is you need to have ALL the answers to every possible question before they are asked. Have you talked to any local sys admin to see their reaction? If you are going for the smaller guy this might be ok. Most med to larger companies will want to have control of their own gear. This gear and it's contents are concidered assets the the corp or business.
They themselves have a certin liability to the contents on the server.
I am not interested as I dont have any need of your services. I was just simply pointing out areas that you need to work on.

This would be for "the smaller guy."
Most companies want/have their own sysadmin(s).
The offer would be for people who are looking for cheaper server management. Right now, I'm just looking to see if the markets even open, and if people would be willing to sacrafice the "datacenter SLA" for cheaper management, by qualified sysadmins. If there's only a small group who are interested, then it's going to be harder to get anything going.
