TheMatrix 03-19-2002, 09:45 PM I should add, this package comes with a trial period - no payment information is gathered upon signup, so you're free to try it out as long as you'd like (within reason).

TheMatrix 03-20-2002, 12:45 AM I just wanted to notify everyone that the 160 MB of space mentioned above has been increased to 200 MB, and the POP3 accounts have been increased to 50.
For $4.95 a month, this deal is almost too good to be true, and what's more, you can try it before you buy it - there's absolutely no risk!

FIRST OF ALL, I am not shopping for a new Web host, so please, competitors, do not send me PMs with competing offers.
Matrix, your offer looks pretty good. Here are a few questions that some people might wonder about:
What type of server(s) are you running?
How many and what type of CPU(s) in your server(s)?
How much RAM is in your server(s)?
What OS are you running?
Do you have your own NOC, or are you a reseller who is housed in someone else's NOC?
How much Tier 1 network capacity do you have?
Are you a one or two-person operation?
TheMatrix 03-20-2002, 02:08 AM Hello-
I'd be glad to answer your questions.
OS: RedHat Linux
CPU: Intel Pentium III 1 GHz CPU
RAM: 256 MB (512 MB shortly)
Our servers are indeed "housed in someone else's NOC" - the costs of building our own center, purchasing UPS, A/C units, etc would be far beyond our current budget. The NOC is located in a secure facility in Baltimore, Maryland. To learn more about "our" NOC, and the backbone connections we use, please go here and scroll down to "Network Information":

We currently employ three individuals. For now, we are able to handle support, setups, etc for our current volume of customers just fine.
If you have any other questions, please ask.
Thanks.

<<MOD NOTE: Please edit the original post instead of bumping your thread (thread will be locked/removed next time)>>
I hope I don't seem like I'm nagging to be asking so many questions, but at least your thread will benefit from being bumped by this reply.;)
Your Web site says that your server is running at only 27% capacity. Is that by choice, or is it simply because you're a brand new host that doesn't have many clients yet? I'm not being facetious -- I really am asking a serious question.
How many clients are you currently hosting?
Can you tell us any domains that you currently host, so we can see how fast they load, etc.?
Thank you!

Usually its confidental what sites are being hosted and how many customers the host has. I would never tell anyone who was poking around how many customers i had, and especially not any of theyre websites.
Sorry. I wasn't trying to "poke around" your "confidential information."
As you must know, many, many hosts provide the type of information that I asked for, including a page of links to some of their hosting clients (with those clients' permission, of course).
Of course, if you don't have any clients yet, you really wouldn't have that information to share, but if that's the case, I'd rather that you just told me that, instead of acting like I had asked you to reveal state secrets.;)
Anyway, good luck with your new business.
The thing is, I was hosted by a site and i allowed them to put my site as the "site of the month" and within a week I was bombarded with emails of "your site is crap"(only about 5) and "is this host good or crappy" (around 40) I just wouldnt want that to happen to any of my customers. and yes i do have a **couple** customers, though i just started out.
Now I'm confused. Zero, do you and TheMatrix both work for animationfx.com, or do you work for a different host?
TheMatrix 03-21-2002, 12:49 AM Hello-
First, I saw the message Chicken posted. The first two messages to this thread were made by me, and I admit, they weren't really necessary. However, this one is genuinely answering a question someone had, and I hope Chicken doesn't see a problem with me adding to my thread - no where does it say the thread's starter may not reply to his own thread...
As for cbob's request, I cannot fulfill it do to the reasons Zero stated. Not only would it be unfair for some of my clients to get free publicity, but it wouldn't be right of me to show potentially confidential sites to the public. If you'd like to get a feel of the speed of our connections, just browse around our site. Or, if you're interested in hosting, and would like to try it out just so you can judge the speed for yourself, email me.
cbob misread something - we aren't running at 27% server capacity - I had said (on the website) that we run at 27% network capacity. There's a difference.
Just now I received an email saying cbob replied to Zero (while I was typing this message) - in response to that:
Perhaps you have a good idea about making a "Clients" page - I'll look into it.
I'll be honest with you - I don't have dozens and dozens of clients like other places have. However, I can honestly say that I do have a few though, and so far they seem to be happy.
I still have a few of those "killer packages" left, and I wanted to sell them all, so the "one day" sale has been extended. :)

As i told cbob, "client" pages can turn out very bad, emails being bombarded customers getting pissed, and perhaps even losing customers.
Sorry I misread your site re: using 27% of your network capacity vs. using 27% of your server capacity.
It sounds like you might be currently using only 27% of your network capacity only because you don't have many clients yet.
If that's the case, then having your current network usage percentage on your Web site doesn't tell us anything about whether you're planning to continue upgrading your network capacity to continue to have a level of extra capacity once you get some clients.
Sorry if that's hard to follow, but I couldn't figure out how to express it any clearer.
ZorteraJason 03-21-2002, 04:56 AM no, perhaps it means he is on top of upgrading, and 27% looks pretty good to potential clients that don't want to be on a congested network
