I'm not real sure if this is the right area for this message, but I think it is.
Does anyone have experience with the Dell PowerVault line of products? Specifically, the 715N series which I am thinking of buying.
Thanks for any thing, but specifically I would like to hear about experiences mounting from FreeBSD and Win2k servers.
Thanks for anything!

Pretty good box as far as NAS is concerned.
Haven't had any problems mounting to linux or Win2k.. never used FreeBSD with it though...
What are you going to be using it for? Backup?

I was thinking that it would make a real good backup storage server, holding incremental backups for a few servers, making data restores for the last week immediately available. I would like to create a web based tool so hosting customers can recover files that they've lost, damaged, or "misplaced" without having to wait for a support person to assist them.
The downfall here is that people may become accustomed to such a solution and by providing it in the first place I may be setting myself up for liability. More research is warranted, but I think I'll pick one up to test out.

At my last $corporate_job we used the PowerVault line for distributed MSSQL functions under Win2K. The only issue we had was actually getting the failover systems to properly come back to life. That was a MS issue and when we finally got it working, it was fine. For pure data write/recover, they were rock steady.
