I'm about to change hosts (leaving halfpricehosting.com) and have been doing
some research to try and avoid making the same mistake twice. I went with them
because of price and actually got what I paid for :-)
This time I've tried to read discussion boards (such as this one) to see what hosts people
are using/recommending.
I've narrowed my list down to 5 and was wondering which of them people here
tend to lean towards. Here's my list so far (open to revisions):

- ultraspeed: Seems to be highly recommended by some
- hosting24-7: Don't recall seeing recommedations
- tera-byte: Recommended - web site sparse
- liquidweb: Recommended - professional-looking site
- hostrocket: I think it's the one recommended the most

I don't need much - all of them offer more than enough data transfer/disk/email quotas.
I would like to be able to have several subdomains (5-10), a discussion board and
some mailing lists.
Most of all I want service (something I don't have with my current host).
Phone support is always nice, toll-free or not doesn't matter. I don't even mind email
support as long as response is "acceptable" (2-4 hours is OK with me).
I'd like to keep costs at about US$15/month and would like to go month-to-month for
a while until I decide to stay for good.
My next step is to actually contact their support staff and see what kind of response I get.
Comments and suggestions are appreciated.

There are tons of hosting companies here. In this forum you should find many that I believe will fit your needs. Just do a search and also look for the thread that has attention all hosts.

Howdy and welcome aboard Sweetpea,

FYI, WebHostingTalk (this forum) is hosted on UltraSpeed USA, and we are currently very happy with the service Daniel provides. Feel free to test the server speed out .

Tera-Byte and HostRocket are both highly recommended around this forum, and you should have little trouble with them.

Sweatpea.
You might be better of to indicate what your needs are. I am with Tera-byte and use little bandwidth and storage. I don't need mysql and can get away with basic account. I signed with Tera-byte because service is great and they were best price for my needs. Your needs may dictate another choice.

I did attempt to read the entire "thread 3053" but it got too overwhelming.
I really was looking for feedback from people who have used the hosts ...
it's the old "word of mouth" thing.
I'm going to keep reading as I still have a month left with halfpricehosting.

gthorley: Right now my web site is just a family site. Not much bandwith
and about 20MB of space - mostly family pictures. No need for databases and such,
but I do want to "expand" into some geneology stuff and was thinking of adding a
mailing list and possibly a BB and/or chat room.
This is all contingent in having time left over after working, playing with the
kids and all the other "real life" family stuff :-)

Thanks to all who've replied so far and hope everyone is having a great holiday season!
