Go find a large link exchange and get traffic that way.

What about improving my rankings in google, that surely is a good way. Im not sure of many soccer sites that have large link exchange which will like to swop or one that i can pay for

I'm not sure Link Exchange will do what you hope it will. You could try link exchanging with other sports sites but reciprocal link exchanges are not what they once were.
You could participate in other soccer forums to get your name out there.

You can advertise your website here on WHT in the banner ads at the top and bottom of every page. I dont think that it is too expensive and it will get a lot of views.

I wouldn't advertise here on WHT, WHT members are NOT your target market. Try and find sports sites and purchase banners there, or purchase google adsense. Find out where the people are that would visit you site and advertise there. Seek out your target market.

You should identify the target market first; your target audience can be specified by way of number of different ways such as using demographically like life style, usage etc.
Errors in media selection are very costly.
I think the comparison and ranking is necessary of particular media before boarding a vehicle for an advertisement.
If you have selected the electronic media, you should make first the comparison of others; the comparison of the response will be very helpful for selection of the media.
For an example suppose a respondent is shown two ads A and B and asked to choose one as better. The process continues until each advertisement has been paired with each others. In a test of 10 ads for example there would be a total 45 comparison.
Number of comparison =Numbers of ads(Number of ad - 1)/2
Hence comparison = 10(10 - 1)/2 = 45
A final score is commuted showing how many times each advertisement was winner in its pairing.
The ads with the largest numbers of win is ranked "1" and so forth..

I may be off base, but I believe your numbers are incorrect for trial comparisons.
Essencially, this would be the same model as 'how many diagionals in a paralellagram' as you want to make sure each ad is seen which each other ad. No duplicate connections, but let's try on a smaller scale.
You have 4 ads you want to show. How many times do you have to show them all together? 6.
Why? Say we have this:
A - B
|
C - D
You have the pairs...
A - B
A - C
A - D
B - C
B - D
C - D
Now everything is covered.
It's actually a modification for a mathematic forumla I have never seen in books but figured out...
Take the number of ads you have as S for Sides in a paralellagram. Each 'Ad' is a 'Side'.
You now do: ((S - 3) * (S / 2)) + S
or for our 4 option... ((4 - 3) * (4 / 2)) + 4
(1 * 2) + 4
2 + 4
6 times.
Now for your 10 ad:
((10 - 3) * (10 / 2)) + 10
(7 * 5) + 10
35 + ... 10 ...
45 :)
Whoops, I could have swore the diaginals in a 10-gon were more than 35. Anyway, now you have a clear-cut forumula to figure out simply how many times you need to show stuff to get your full pair matching :)
Definitely a great idea, too.

Well, But these pair comparison method allows to judge only two comparisons. Some consumer finds it difficult in the order of merit test to rank more than about six or seven ad treatment.
For those tests to rank what you suggest?

I think "Order of Merit test" can be work out for the comaprison of more than about six or seven ad treatment.
If a respondent are shown a series of advertisements perhaps as many as six or seven and asked to place them in rank order, based on same communication Criterion (such as " liking"). After all the ads have been ranked by each consumer, a composite score is obtained.
This score (an average ranking) shows which ad was ranked no "1" which was no "2" and so on..
