I'm going to list my site to Yahoo, after finding the approriate category, I saw a very few websites that listed in BOLD, while many others are normal. How can Yahoo list some specific sites in bold letter?

Also, can I list my site in multiple category, for example, Can I list my site in Regional > Countries > Vietnam > Entertainment > mysite as well as Regional > Countries > Vietnam > news if my site have all these contents? Thanks.

As I understand it, the procedure for getting your listing in bold and in multiple categories on Yahoo is very simple.

First, one must bow low, whilst facing west, with one's buttocks exposed entirely to the elements.

Then, one must chant, over and over again, for seven consecutive days: "Yahoo, Yahoo, Yahoo is My New God" whilst drinking a beverage of humility comprised of herbs grown in soil consecrated to the cause of earning obscene amounts of dirty money.

Finally, one must send huge sums of US currency, in unmarked bills of small denominations, to the Swiss bank where the advertising director of Yahoo maintains his private accounts.

That done, Yahoo will undboutedly comply with your wishes, promptly listing you sometime in the next century.

I dont mean to be a party pooper etlux, but Ive noticed that over 90% of the posts you reply to are serious and you make up some joke while never really answering the question. Crack all the jokes you want but if your going to reply to a post could you at least answer it or try to help in some way, then joke all you want.

Just my personal opinion.

The information presented is essentially accurate, despite the hyperbole of its phrasing.

Nam, there are two ways to get listed on Yahoo! One is the hard way, and the other is...well, the harder way.

The hard way is to get listed on a search engine called Google. Yahoo often takes Google's search engine results and uses them for its own site (i.e. optimize your site for the Google engine using specific keywords and Yahoo) will find it that way.

The harder way is, of course, the manual submission. A few points:

1. Submit your index page and nothing but your index page. Yahoo has a very unique way of punishing people who don't follow this rule. They just say "no thanks, we don't want you, here's a nice big cup of Gotoheckanddienow."

2. You can submit to multiple categories as long as they'r relevant. However, relevancy is determined in the end by Yahoo's crack team of human reviewers who will stick it wherever they feel it's more appropriate anyway. So if you're not sure if it fits into a category, don't suggest it.

3. Don't use marketing phrases. Yahoo HATES marketing phrases. Things like "The best darned site in the world" usually end up filed under G.

To summarize: optimize for the Google search engine, and if that don't work, then do it the manual way.

And if that doesn't work, perhaps the sound of money in the royal coffers, as etLux has suggested, would expedite the process considerably although more than likely you're taking your money and making it go "whooooosh" down the john if you do that.

Hope this helps.

Thank you John, few more questions, is it really hard to get to good position in Google? and do I need optimize my site especially for Google? if so, how?

I like the fact that Yahoo (and a few others) reject marketing terms. They are meaningless when looking for a site and are written by those clueless about the differences between the www and traditional advertising.

One important consideration: choose your words carefully as regards the description of your site. Even if Yahoo adds a site, they are unlikely to ever change the description later.

Over four years ago (when there were a lot fewer sites and less people on the net) , it took a call to a vice president to get them to change the URL (after trying for 6 months) for two customers of mine who finally got their own domain name. It's gotten harder since then.

I would suggest that you design a page for the Google engine. There are resources that do exist to tell you how to optimize for search engines: however, I am at a different terminal and am unsure where they are (I think one of them is http://www.searchenginesecrets.com).

The bolded links you're looking at are likely public companies (as in listed on markets) or ones with subsidiary Web sites/companies that open another list of sites when clicked on. Otherwise, the only special listing you get in their directory is when you first list and they put you on top with a neat little "new" button. After a couple of days, they put you in alphabetical order.
