View Full Version : it amazed me how established company's website look childish
jt2377 05-17-2005, 07:33 AM i'm amazed on how some established companies website look like hobby website pre-1999. i was reading about this company in Microsoft's the partner channel spring 2005 magainze two gals and a rat. how two women started from their basement to an established Microsoft Great Plain and CRM solution VAR then i went to their website and it totally blow me away on how childish their website is. it look worst than template and click on their nagivative link it will just keep opening new webpage with title home page. they are Microsoft gold certified business soultion partner for christ sake and this is not the first one that i saw with crappy looking website.
i've saw a lot of established business with crappy website. it's like they are not even trying. i think traditional business is still not looking at Internet as a seriously business front. a piece of property that will really help you gain more business or lose a lot. they see it as something that is not in their core thus they don't give a <removed> or something.
do you think people should take business's website more seriously? i mean it's your company on the net 24/7 that a first time buyers will see and get the first impression. ya know.
does anyone else notice this? small to midsize established companies (not internet based companies) have very very crappy website.
thomas7 05-17-2005, 07:38 AM Depends.
What if all my business was done through word of mouth?
Offline advertising methods? I wouldn't even need a website, let alone a well presented one.
As we all know, people don't just stumble across websites- it takes a lot just to get one person to your site, if your not intrested in getting people to your website, then why have a well presented one.
However, does beg the question- if you don't want anyone on it, why bother having one?
jt2377 05-17-2005, 08:01 AM i think it's very basic and nessceary to have a well pro-like website. like when these two women's company got mentioned on a article in magainze. you'll like people to look at what you offer and since your customers can be from anywhere around the world or even let's say in the U.S. they can't come to your physical location thus the next best thing is your online website to check out what you offer. won't you perfer to prestent yourself with a nice looking pro website rather a 1995 website and it's not hard to come across website anymore since Google ad is cheap and sometime people may want to do research about your company and what's the fastest way to find your company by search.
Jimerson 05-17-2005, 08:40 AM Yeah in theese days image counts for alot. But some people get involved in there project and care not what their website looks like.
Snipz 05-17-2005, 08:52 AM Depends on the comany and what typees of products/service and customers they cater to. Some just don't care because the webfront is not their primary source of business. Why? Who knows it could be a variety of reasons from their products/services aren't web-compatible, it's a small special niche industry, they have no reasons to vastly expand their business through website presence, etc.
jt2377 05-17-2005, 02:29 PM i alway think website is a virtual extension of your physical business. selling online or not, a pro-like website should be a must for today's business enviroment but oh well some established companies just don't care i guess.
Jimerson 05-17-2005, 07:09 PM I understand what you are saying completely.
I think forum posts are a virtual extension of oneself. With that said, this thread is very unprofessional. :P
Professor 05-17-2005, 07:55 PM You have to remember the internet is still in its relative infancy, and as such, its penetration and potential has not fully been realised.
You have to also realise that the vast majority of business owners grew up without the internet...and most have succeeded without it.
What I find excisting is for the first time, teens and younger have grown up immersed in the internet essentially their whole lives, and this will change the whole dynamic of the importance of the net. These are the people who will drive the growth and shape the continued success of the net; and when their generation become businessmen, I am sure they will realise the extent to which the web medium will benefit their business.

Agree. 'cause according to some study that Internet ad is rising. i do hope established companies will want to get a better website. have you check out any law or accounting firm's website? wow, it really blow me away how ugly and hard to nagivate website that they use to represent themsleves on the net.
