View Full Version : Book for advanced technics?
lemondude 05-15-2005, 12:03 PM I was wondering if there is a book that teaches you how to make a web site www.gamespot.com, not like http://www.deadromans.com/ which I found on google, because this I can do. I'm basicly asking if there is a book for advance technics in web site designing. Any program is fine.
thanx

Yes, I already know the basic function of dreamweaver, and don't need a book on any of the image editing tools since I'm doing fine with those.

Well, just recommand a book for both, and I'll decide to get which one lwhen I have a look at it at my local book store.
Voxxit 05-15-2005, 04:53 PM Wow, first off - I would look elsewhere for inspiration if you like gamespot.com. That site has quite possibly the worst CSS I've ever seen! It can be condensed greatly, and took a LONG time to load.
Otherwise, I would recommend searching Amazon, or going to your local B&N or Borders store - or even the library! Although, the bookstore is usually a bit more updated. Just go there, grab some coffee and read. I never buy the books =|
Cheers,
Josh

I meant like how to host pics like this
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/thesims2nightlife/screenindex.html
Voxxit 05-22-2005, 06:33 AM So you mean about how to make an image gallery?
I would recommend SlideShowPro (http://www.slideshowpro.net). It is an advanced gallery which is very powerful, aesthetics are nice, and is great all-around! Check it out!
Otherwise, I also like Gallery2 and some others around the Internet.
Cheers,
Josh
learn these things.
dreamviewer
photoshop

you are a prefect web designer, if u know these/
Voxxit 05-22-2005, 10:35 AM spechackers,

That is quite the ignorant comment. I highly disagree! There are "web designers" that know everything about Dreamweaver, but couldn't put a creative site together to save their life. Also, it takes much more than technical knowledge to become a sucessful web developer.
selbourne 05-22-2005, 10:51 AM well yes ...one is first a designer and he also got to know the tools
empresasdehosting 05-22-2005, 11:04 AM The web design include other things like usability, you can know a lot of software designs programs, but if your site has not got usability...it will fail...
This site is relate usability

Yes it's true that you need more than technics to creat a cool site; however, can we get back on topic and help me pick a book to improve my technics and I'll worry about the other facters later.
Also, I, now, only need a book for dreamweaver, or any program good for web designning. A book about the HTML codes is also good.
THANX
Voxxit 05-23-2005, 07:22 AM You should try the O'Reilly books; I hear they are wonderful. Try searching Amazon.com for "CSS", "XHTML", and "Dreamweaver", etc.
etechsupport2 05-23-2005, 12:06 PM you should also try some of books like "Web Design Mastery", "The Zen of CSS design", Mollys books etc fo web site designing.

I think you will gain the basic knowledge and details about the web site designing from books.
But I observe that the techniques or tactics is situational and differ from individuals experience and the merit of the situation. A person can innovate certain techniques himself rather than studying the same in a book which already practiced by others. It can well understandable by following example.
Prior to a football game, the coach will have worked out a game plan, which contains general features such as confine running plays to end sweeps because the opponent are too strong up the middle.
A tactics or technique is part of the coach's repertoire utilized for specific situations. This might develop during the course of the game, such as a fake punt.

Nice tool, thanks for the reference.
lemondude 05-30-2005, 08:09 PM Right now I need a CSS book for beginners, since I know nothing of CSS. Any book would be a great help
PS: if some one can suggest a good program to use for CSS editing that would be nice as well.
Thanx
