View Full Version : Google Adsense on a Hosting Service page?
Neil V 05-14-2005, 01:01 PM Would it drive away buisness to put Google adSense on a hosting website?
Or would the extra income be enough that the two would cancel each other out?
I just added it to my hosting sites page and I'm hoping potential customers won't click away and try someplace advertised in the adds...rather than go with us. At the very least, the adds could offer them a comparison as to what we offer and what someone else offers, and they still might decide to join with us..
could this be a problem?
Yes, I think it would drive away business. (but isn't that the point of adsense)
Sure, you might keep some people that decide to compare your services to others but you will also lose some.
For most hosts, they would make far more in recurring revenue from a customer than a one time click on an ad.
I guess the exception to this, is if you are offering free hosting or extremely cheap hosting...
accyroy 05-14-2005, 02:05 PM There was a thread about this last week.. General consensus was that it is definately very unprofessional and not good for business. Personally if I came across a paid hosting site with adsense on it I would not even think about hosting with that company.
Neil V 05-14-2005, 02:34 PM Hmm, Well, I guess I could use it as a service t osay, "Even if you check out these other services advertized above, we're still confident you'd want to give us a try :)"
Deusx 05-14-2005, 05:29 PM Well i offer paid hosting but i also offer free hosting. The free hosting forums have Google Adsense ads on them so they provide a good source of revenue :D

Google Adsense ads on the "corporate website" of a paid host are a real turn off. At least for me they are. Thay also make very little sense from a marketing point of view.

I totally agree with you.
Google Adsense on a corporate website always makes me wonder
whether the company is so short on cash that they need this extra
income. How long will they stay in business ;)
whatever 05-15-2005, 03:01 AM If anything, adsense will get you a couple of dollars. A commericial website shouldn't, well... try to devert away business.
ExcellentHost 05-15-2005, 04:25 PM Very unprofessional, a potential customer may believe that your sole purpose is just to make a quick buck, or your business isn't performing well enough so you have to put up adsense in attempts to subsidize. I would take them down if I were you, why even drive away customers for 5-15 cents when you could have them for x.xx every month??
KDAWebServices 05-16-2005, 04:01 AM If I see it on a hosting company site, or any other service site that is a paid for service, I always come to the conclussion that they just can't cut it in their market sector if they are having to resort to advertising on their site to increase income.
Neil V 05-16-2005, 09:56 AM OK, advice taken, adds are gone :)
OrGin 05-17-2005, 12:40 PM No i think they won't bother....
icestorm 05-17-2005, 02:54 PM If you but Google Adsense on your own hosting site, you might as well just post the links of all your competitors on your front page. It's the same thing.
