Anyone know where I can get a toll free 1-800 number that will forward to an existing phone line? I know of www.teledomains.com . Anyone know of anywhere else?

The cheapest solution ($6.99/mo for their best package + whatever additional storage and airtime) can be found at uReach.com.

Voicemail, fax, line forwarding to a single line or multiple lines (in a particular order or all at once) etc. Great service.

If you want something more complex (i.e. directory listings/virtual operator, department extensions, individual extensions etc.) I'd go with Accessline Communications.

www.myown888.com is alright except I am not sure you get to pick a number.

Yeah, almost all toll-free number providers will just ask you for a POT (Point of Termination) for the number. Meaning they'll ask you what regular service number you want it to ring at.

We're using ATT.

I actually found an 800 number provider (kall8) who sets it up "on the fly". It's basically redirecting so that you can go on line at any time and change the number it rings to. No results so no opinion yet on the service.

I, also, believe ureach provides that capability.

with myown888, you can pick your own number to a certain extent. They have batches of numbers... like say... all the 888-698-XXXX, so they let you pick the XXXX part if its available. I got 877-676-HOST.
And I got in before the $5 monthly min. so a lot of the time, my bill is only a couple bucks. :)

I find no mention of a monthly minimum on their site. In fact, there's little information of any kind on the site, no Terms of Service, for one thing. Maybe after you start the signup process, and submit the form telling them which number you want the new toll-free to ring on?

Just make sure that you can take the number with you when you leave to another service provider.

Most toll-free service providers have to allow you to do this. However, I have run into some smaller providers that claim that because they are using new technology with incoming did lines that they are exempt from this and thus can hold you captive for higher $ if "their" toll-free number becomes popular.

Just a thought...

I recommend Rsl Communcations at www.rslcom.com they got me 888-OKIHOST forwarded to a local # for I think its .05 a min and there is no fee.. If you only use 2 minutes your bill is only .10 ;)

Kall8 is pretty good, I use them for a couple numbers. What I like is the free voicemail and instant changes. You can also block and forward certain numbers. Also, the $1 advertisement is kind of true, but the invoice turns out to be $1.28 or something after some federal telecom taxes.

I don't see any mention of that among the features of the service on their site, or in the demo of their account management system. How does it work? Do you mean the using separate "free voice mail" service they have a link to?

They don't mention it. It doesn't show it on the demo either. But it seems they've integrated their free voice mail service in to kall8 - the voice mail recording is a very generic one without any advertising tags, etc. It just says "please start your fax or leave a message after the tone." If there's a fax, it emails it to you, if it's a voicemail message, it sends the recording to you.

I didn't like myown888.com either at first but as soon as you submit the form they send you info. (Its no big deal since you aren't sending cash)
