View Full Version : OC12 Hosting wasted my time!

A couple of weeks ago OC12 Hosting gave away 5 free accounts on this forum. "Lucky" me received one of these.

I had just bought hosting for my domain with Dixiesys (Excellent work, Gary!:D). So after confirmation of me receiving one of the free accounts I sent a mail to OC12 Hosting asking if it would be OK for me to get back to them when I had purchased another domain, and host the new one on the free account.

Got a reply:

sure, when needbe just give me the domain to setup

To become a reseller aside from the Reseller2, yes you can become a reseller for OC12 Hosting, we would require your payment details
for any other reseller plans you would like to utilize

Hey - how cool! So, I go on to buy my new domain and send them a mail on wednesday:

Hi!

I've registered my domain now, and was wondering if you could set it up.

The domain is www.xxxxxx.net

Once again, thanks!

No reply. The next day - thursday - new mail:

Hi xxxx,

Don't wanna nag :-), just wondering when you would have the time to set up my account?

Guess what? No reply as of yet. So yesterday I sent a PM to "my man" here at the forum.

Hi!

A couple of weeks ago you gave away a couple of free accounts and I've tried emailing you about the setup of my account xxxxxx.net, but haven't received any replies.

I'm not gonna keep nagging about this issue forever, but could you PM/email me so I know what's happening?

No reply. And I can see that this person has been on WHT and posted in the mean time. I know this is a free account, but it really turns me off when I can't get a reply.

I would have settled for a simple "Sorry, things are busy right now, I'll fix it when I find the time". What I hate is sitting on the fence, not knowing if this is a dead deal or what.

What do you guys think?

thx

Have you tried going to OC12's help desk (http://helpdesk.oc12hosting.com/) and submitting a ticket?

Here's the thread:

5 free accounts (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=270709#post270709)

I've got no problem with the fact that I have to pay for hosting, but I hate it when people are not upfront about what they can offer.

I don't think you're asking too much; wanting clarification.

I wouldn't have a problem if I'd just gotten some kind of message from them. But even if this account is setup - what level of service can I expect? That's one of my main worries.

And even though I don't have to pay for this account, that's pretty useless if I can't get help when I need it.

Like I said - I'm already hosting one domain with Dixiesys (http://www.dixiesys.com), and I'm very happy with the level of support I get there. I also got a lot of replies from people when I put out a request for paid hosting.

So I'll rather pay money for a smaller account and have the "right" to expect some level of service and support.

Well be glad it was a free offer. I mean its not as big of a deal because you didn't pay anything for the account that you didn't get. But he did say you could get it and made you go get another domain.

Well it looks like Gary's no longer wth OC12 hosting:

His signature looks like this:

Well, that could be the answer of why I haven't got any replies.

Well, sh*t happens.:)

Guess it's time to move on...

Thx for all of your replies!

Hi Svejar

You are correct in stating I am no longer with OC12 Hosting, I have given total management to my partner Chris.

Please open a trouble ticket at OC12 Hosting's website and a tech will respond with your basic account details. All of the 4 other accounts have been setup within 3 days of their request.

As explained by others, free hosting accounts are just that, and you do get what you pay for, and on a personal note (not the views of my company) free accounts are usually put at the bottom of any list, I have had free accounts in the past and had to live with doing without immedite responses.

Its just a fact of life, people give away free stuff all the time, and quite alot of the time, your put at the bottom of the list when it comes to responses and support.

When I have 20 accounts with tickets open that are paying me $45.00 a month, and 1 ticket that is not, I must sucum to the customers paying $45.00 because I promised them a response in XX hours etc....nothing in life (or hosting) is free...and when it is...it comes with a heavy price to pay.

Well, I've got no problem understanding what you just said. I can live with that.

You set me up for an account, and gave me an email address to use for further contact. When I don't get any replies, I try to contact you on this forum via PM. No answers. Not even a reply from some "tech" at OC12 Hosting. That's what got me going. And I know this account is dead. Quite frankly, I don't care.

What set me off was the fact that I HAD to post this message in a public forum to get some sort of reaction. And that shouldn't have been necessary. The emails had all the details of (what little) correspondance we've had. Anyone who can read would have seen that. Guess noone bothered.

And the dilemma of paying vs. free accounts; well that's more of a paradox isn't it? What do you do? You sort it out. You follow up on what you've promised.

If I can't get a f**king response from anyone, neither you or your former company, why should I consider paying for the same level of attitude?

I'm done with this. Live long and prosper.

Really, its getting pathetic to put this much stress over a free account and I will not tollerate it. Per your request (even if you did not request you didnt want the account, i would have not set it up anyway after seeing such a lively response), I have informed Chris to disregard your request for the account

FYI: I very rarely use the PM features in WHT....and if i didnt make it clear enough, Usually i am to busy with paid hosting customers to worry about free accounts so those emails are put at the bottom of the list. Its just a fact of life. I get over 100 emails a day and numerious tickets to respond to on a daily basis.

Im not going to lie or make excuses, if its concerning something free, i wont respond to it within 24 hours as with paid customers.

I could also care less if you brought this to a public forum "just to get a response." I have made it perfectly clear in the past that I do not response to technical requests in public forums.

Its more funny then anything else.
