I can't believe it. I didn't want to get into a drag-out negative rant about any one company, but somethings deserve to be said.

NamesAreCheap.com, as I mentioned before, provided really sloppy service.

1) Service was down for two weekends, which is ok if nobody surfs the web on the weekends. I wasn't happy. I want people to see my webpage, and I want to retrieve my domain-based email.

2) Support became crap. A phone call took 4 days to answer. Email support was minimal, and your main reason for the downtime was "Maintanence."

3) My request for basic information on my renewal date was never answered.

I cancelled my account, and received absolutely no feedback.

No acknowledgement and no apologies.

Now comes the insult. NamesAreCheap.com has charged my credit card for renewal. I guess I'll have to contact my credit card company, and write up a letter.... as if I didn't have anything better to do.

If you don't like headaches, avoid this company at all costs.

I think it's time for a follow-up on the matter of NamesAreCheap.com. When I wrote my scathing attack on this company, they hadn't responded to any of my emails, and frankly, I had to vent off some steam. One can only be ignored for so long.

Recently, NamesAreCheap.com did send out an email of apology, and a note that my credit card has been properly credited for the boo-boo. If only they might have been sent out emails sooner, and attempted to enact good communications, I might have kept 'em as my web host, but it's too late for that.

When I went searching for a webhost last year, NamesAreCheap.com seemed to have a nice interface- good prices, good tutorials, and a good design. Where they truly screwed up was the implementation of their business procedure.

So, this in mind, here are the grades I would give NamesAreCheap.com for their service, circa March 2002:

Interface design: A-MINUS
Basic business operations: C-MINUS

They would have received a "B" for basic business operations of the previous 11 months, if not for the past month where things just went to crap. If I had to judge them on the past month of February, it would have been "F." One is typically judged on their weakest link.

I hope they can fix their deficiencies.....
or retire from business.

What's the point of being mediocre?

Enough on this company- time to move on.

Hey,

From the way you mentioned it, it doesn't sound good at all. I am still looking around to find one good and responsive host. thank goodness for your review.

I really wonder why these companies want to provide hosting services they can't even host sites properly.
