Do you have to have a credit card to use paypal or will it work off a bank account? serve-you 03-16-2002, 10:58 PM Yes, many hosts allow you to pay via paypal in addition to their normal methods. You can draw funds directly from your checking account, use credit cards, or checks. -Dan SoftWareRevue 03-16-2002, 11:03 PM You would probably have a harder time finding a host that wouldn't accept PayPal. Although not all will display the link on site; most will make arrangements if you contact them. OtaconTV 03-16-2002, 11:28 PM I'm sixteen and jobless and the only way I could pay is to bribe my parents into letting me give them the money, and have them send the check.. PayPal is like a online credit card right? So I would send a check, and it would increase my PayPal balance, then the host would take from the paypal balance right? serve-you 03-16-2002, 11:31 PM No, paypal is not a bank account. It links to your existing bank account or credit card. -Dan OtaconTV 03-17-2002, 02:18 AM Oh, THe way I understood it was that you deposit money too it from your bank account, and it has it's own balance and everything. serve-you 03-17-2002, 02:29 AM If you setup a money market acount with paypal you can deposit funds from your bank account, and leave it there to conduct transactions with. This is not generally the way people use paypal. Further, you cannot legally setup a paypal account at the age of 16, which would even further defeat the use that you are looking for. You might want to look into Visa Buxx (http://www.visabuxx.com/index.cfm) as a possible solution. -Dan Maniac 03-17-2002, 04:26 AM I know a lot of hosts that do use PayPal. I also know PayPal has a feature where you login and click on shop>>then it says something like shop somewhere else and asks for the URL>>you put the URL in and you can go shop at that website with your PayPal account but they will give you numbers or something which will be used as a credit card (if the shop doesn't support PayPal) but it will take money from your PayPal account. I hope that made sense.. OtaconTV 03-17-2002, 08:06 PM What about having my parents set up the paypal acccount for them. Would I be able to have money come from my savings account into their paypal? serve-you 03-18-2002, 12:01 AM I suppose you could. Chances are that their names are on your account anyway since yuo are a minor. -Dan OtaconTV 03-18-2002, 12:07 AM Yes, my mothers name is on the account. The host I'm considering is myacen, and I e-mailed them, and they sent me a link to there other payment options, and the only option there that suited my needs was that I could use a money order. I wanted it to be that I could just add money to a account, and they would deduct it when they needed it but oh well. I talked with my parents, and they said they will consider getting me a Visa Buxx card when they are able. Thanks everybody for all the help, -Tom knockingknee 03-18-2002, 12:51 AM Originally posted by OtaconTV I'm sixteen and jobless and the only way I could pay is to bribe my parents into letting me give them the money, and have them send the check.. That's why we don't support paypal, even though we receive around 5 enquiry's about accepting paypal per day. ToastyX 03-18-2002, 03:46 AM If you can get your parents to cosign, you might be able to get a credit card, or you can look for a host that accepts online checks. iisset 03-18-2002, 04:58 PM Thats funny my paypal was also restricted they contacted my house asking for all this info and still again they failed to un-restrict the account so i sent in the fax they asked for and then they asked for me to send in more info and then this all re-peated daily so i just gave it up. Do they have to have their own credit card or checking account? What about visa buxx? bitserve 03-19-2002, 01:03 PM Originally posted by OtaconTV ...What about visa buxx? I've been using them with no problem for about 5-6 months now. MarcD 03-19-2002, 03:02 PM Originally posted by OtaconTV K, I won't use paypal then. Thanks for helping me. What about visa buxx? as far as co signing a credit card depends on what state most states you will be unable to do this for legal reasons you must be 18 years of age to possess a credit limit. you can get a checking account tho and get a visa/mastercard debit card all you would really need is $20.00 to start the account with. in my experiences i have had no problems with paypal. am happy with them just follow the rules and submit all required info. serve-you 03-19-2002, 03:07 PM Originally posted by Justice wow, this is the first I've heard negative things about PayPal. Some people will bash them every chance they get because they had a bad experience for whatever reason. Others bash them simply because they heard someone had a bad experience. On the flip side, there are people (like me) that will always praise them for the service they have given me. I've been using paypal pretty much since day 1. I have never once had a bad experience. I leave money in my money market account, and I am not at all worried about them freezing my accounts. Contrary to what some seem to think, there is always a reason for them to take this action. Paypal is just like any other business, only they handle your money (sort of). Some people will love them and some people will hate them. And the voices of those who dislike them are usually going to be louder than those who have not had a problem. -Dan MarcD 03-19-2002, 03:12 PM Originally posted by serve-you Do a search for paypal here. Please review the terms of use about why an account can be restricted. In addition, account restrictions can be resolved. You posted that you had an issue with your account. I offered to assist, but I received no PM/email from you with your account information. |
