If thats too big then how do i reduce the size of the images, without effecting the colour?

do you know of a site, where i can find out the total size of my index page, including all the images it uses?

I think your page loads fine - 3-4k is not too big (though it could probably be smaller)

FireFox gives you the page info.

It's 47kb. No problem for broadband users, but kills for dial uppers.

You can't really make the images smaller, unless you make it a background image, and make the text HTML [then it will only need to cache one image instead fo a half dozen]. But unless you'll well-versed in HTML/CSS, you'd be best off hiring someone to do it for you.

You also have a lot going on in that page.

I'm viewing it from work and it takes a bit to load all of that content and the associated images. Can you using paging to eliminate some? Perhaps show the first 10 or even 5 items, then use a "next 5" button for example? Cutting down on these types of things could help as well. Image size doesn't seem to be a problem so it's something else to consider.

Looks like most of your space is taken up with those 50x50 GIF's. You could eek some smaller file size out of the GIF's by using an adaptive pallete. Instead of using all 256 colors, Fireworks adapted the pallete to half of those colors and the filesizes went down from 4K to 2.5K for two pictures I tried out (cat_vac & cat_bat).

I attached an example of one of them where some colors were thrown away. The files are so small that you can't really see a huge difference.

Eww, pop-up's & pop-unders. Graphics loaded really slow on our fat pipe here at work.

All graphics loading painfully slow here... everything else is loading damn fast.

Your image sizes definitely appear to be larger than they should. Nearly 12KB for a .GIF logo is insane. It could be the program you're using to save them with, or you might want to consider using .PNG.

I'd use a lower quality... In Photoshop, you can play around with this, but i try to use less colors (less than 256k colors) and babout 60-80% quality.

Thanks. Yeah i am going to use pagination and have only 10 -15 games / page. at the moment i'm more worried about the size of the layout.

all the images are fresh out of image ready. Whats the best program to use, to reduce the sizes. i normally use PS and save in lower quality.

I don't know about the best but I was able to do it quite easily with Macromedia Fireworks. I prefer it over Adobe PS for web images.
