First of all, compliments to the hosts of this excellent site.

I'm with ***** and reside outside the US. A major disadvantage when one needs technical support. I lived through their outtage last December and a couple of weeks ago they had another one as a result of which I lost a day and a half's worth of email, some of which was extremely important. I really need to change hosts. I've known this since last year but not being a techie like the rest of you smart folks, am petrified by the ordeal of transfering the cgi scripts (guestbook, a bbs, a polls cgi script) - hence have not done so. Transfering the rest of the files is obviously quite easy. Now it's time. I don't need a lot of space or bandwidth (average a couple of thousand hits a MONTH)

I've searched this board and have narrowed my choices down to

olm.net
hostrocket.com
tera-byte.com

I'd appreciate any comments and thoughts.

The Site: http://www.akuweb.com

Thanks
Fahim

Hi Fahim,
I think it is a matter of whichever host actually meets your needs, such as disk space, bandwidth transfer, etc.
I think all 3 of those hosts are reliable, and Ive seen alot of positive posts on all of them
Good Luck!!

Fahim, don't sweat it too much. Once you sign up with your new host, install the scripts and get them working. The data is usually stored one place or another and can be moved. I'd make sure everything was all set by moving everything, testing the scripts, and then once everything is working, change the nameservers to your new host at your registrar.

Keep your old host's account active until the dns switches, and you've gotten all the data from the scripts off the server, and you'll be fine.

Hi.

I've had no experience with olm but have had experience with HostRocket and Tera-byte.

HostRocket

Been with them now for over 6 months (i think). Service has been excellent. John & Brendan have been very helpful whenever required. For $9.95 a month they don't half pride an excellent service.

Tera-byte

Tera-byte been with them since April. Just upgraded my account from a virtual to a dedicated with them. The service has been the best i've experienced in two years of hosting websites.

Choosing either of those hosts and your site will be in safe hands.

Fahim If you decide on OLM, they just released a new special thats got alot more traffic than they normally provide. its appears at http://olm.net/cnet Their now offering 15 GB traffic with 500 MB for 19.95. I know they have several hidden pages like this kind of a odd way of doing things..

I'm still debating where to go. Terabytes has some rave reviews but doesn't have that convenient "control panel" that Hostrocket has. OLM has ALWAYS had a superb review going back to at least a year. I don't think OLM has that either. Please CORRECT me if I'm wrong. One fo the advantages of ***** was in fact that .. a control panel which novices like me can find pretty useful. But the site you pointed out is great ...... for me the $9.95 deal is plenty.

Fahim OLM has a pretty comprehensive control panel.
Its better than ci and they just updated it so its offers some new features. I dont know exactly what your needs are
but I have always found their 24 hour phone support very helpful and their support desk allows you to track and store all your enquiries. Hope this info helps, for 9.95 they have a 300 meg on that special page that should more than meet the needs you described.

Really? I went to their site and somehow couldn't find a demo control panel. Can you point out where it is ?

Thanx

Fahim

you can find a old mockup at

http://www.webcontrol.axxs.net/mockup/

They made some changes since the original, when they posted
the release back in oct.

The HostRocket control panel is the best one out of the three. But a control panel is not seen by your sites users (=. Pick the most reliable stable host :).

TWA, I'm with OLM too but my control panel is still the old one, which is sometimes troublesome. When did they upgrade your control panel?

Thx~

Not to long ago. They put it on a handful of old servers for beta testing, Iam sure you will get the old one updated before the end of the month. Tech told me all new servers have this also, maybe you can ask them to move you to a newer machine if you dont want to wait.
