View Full Version : This will make you larf - Donhost
kermitsworld 03-16-2002, 07:49 PM I really do have to share this with you guys even if it is just to make you laugh.
As a few of you know I used to work for Donhost but that isnt the issue for a change. Anyway when I was there I had a few domains on a provided reseller account, nice perk never earned a bean.....
I recently, about two months ago, sold one of the domains to a friend of mine and it now resides in his UK Reg control panel. He set his site up with Donhost and everything was going swimmingly until today. I get an email from him saying that he had noticed this domain was missing from his control panel and on checking so was the site.....
Another case of delete the site without telling the reseller we imagine but the reason was a corked.....
It was deleted as I used to work there and he will not host my domain...... ok fine fair point, but did he even ask the reseller about it? Nope.... usual lacksidaisical approach to customer care from Mr Conlon and yet another peed off reseller.
Regards
Ian

Why didn't he host your domain?
YUPAPA 03-16-2002, 11:52 PM Hey, I've just noticed my mail form support thingy not working. They have disabled sendmail. How long have they been doing that?
Maniac 03-17-2002, 04:39 AM What control panel are they using?....just wondering..
ToastyX 03-17-2002, 05:17 AM They use their own control panel.

Cheers,
No, he wrote his own Control Panel. :) And I've seen the source code. The Control Panel is written very well and it is in Perl plus uses mySQL Database to store users data.

Hi,
We have an online control panel, a demonstration of which you can see at http://www.donhost.co.uk/products/paneldemo. This control panel was written in house by myself and I am currently in the process of developing the control panel into a commercial product. The completed control panel software for FreeBSD and Red Hat Linux is now available.
Message ws dated Nov. 2000 and I've seen others priase the control panel system they use and want it. Although this message indicates that it was available almost 2 years ago, I assume those plans changed and it is no longer (or never was?) available for purchase?

I don't think they have ever sold the control panel. You want one chicken? :)
kermitsworld 03-18-2002, 11:17 AM must share this as well. The client received this email from Donhost:

Lazyness, we will try to in future.
Avatar 03-18-2002, 11:31 AM at least they're honest ;)
4solutions 03-18-2002, 12:05 PM Welcome to the forum, Avatar...
You might want to shorten that signature before the mods cut it for you... you're limited to four lines ;)
ToastyX 03-18-2002, 04:12 PM Well, technically, it's one line. :buck: It's four lines for me in 1024x768.
Donhost doesn't seem to care about having customers anymore. I think they could make quite a bit selling their control panel, but they're probably too lazy to support it.

Depends how much. If they are going to sell it for 99USD/month, ppl would rather get CPanel instead. I think 50USD for that control panel is reasonable. :stickout
I am currently working one by myself! :)
kermitsworld 03-18-2002, 05:05 PM To be fair to Daniel, and I aint that often the control panel is one of the best if not THE best in the industry.
Just my two penneth worth

Actually, it didn't mention anything about wrapping ;) that it is in fact 1 (one) line. so :-p
anyway, the donhost control panel is ok, but a major niggle is the limitation on 10 domains per page is annoying, and there's also a niggling bug in the e-mail stuff that i've not quite cracked yet.
i'm also gonna write my own at some point, but as i'm a windoze person it'll be for IIS...
