View Full Version : Jumpline Disaster - Need To Move 20 Accounts Quickly
telework 03-16-2002, 06:36 PM I know I can find a lot of what I need by searching past threads in this Forum, but I have little time and about 20 Resold Accounts to transfer from Jumpline to a new host.
I'm looking for recommendations as to where to move the accounts. I'm considering CrystalTech and Hosting Matters, but would welcome any and all suggestions.
Reliability and Support are primary concerns. I prefer a host where I can talk to a support person live (if necessary) when needed in addition to the usual trouble-ticket/email approach.
Price is secondary. In fact, some of the lowest cost providers scare me! I want my ISP to make money so they can invest in infrastructure, support and so forth.
Again, thanks in advance for your recommendations!
mrlarter 03-16-2002, 06:56 PM mchost.com is really good a company i deal with personally....but they don't offer a whole lot of bandwidth...but good company..support needs to be worked on but still over all worth the amount you pay
Proper Inet 03-16-2002, 07:22 PM Venturesonline is excellent with setting up the reseller's account (less than an houe) and you can add your 20 accounts very quickly.

You can say that again.
Not the company to go for if you want something sorted in a hurry, at least at the moment.
Clown 03-16-2002, 07:33 PM Move fast from Jumpline, they really sucks. I quit for a week and I can still access with FTP (I might shoud post the address ;-) ). The DNS zone for my domains are also still active on their nameservers...
Today I ask them for a refund (I paid anually in advance) see there answer:
Your question was:
I have already terminated my account by jumpline and moved to another company. But the DNS zones (from xxxxx.com and yyyyyy.com) are still activ on jumplines nameserver (ns1.jumpline2000.com; ns2.jumpline2000.com).
Besides that my former account on Jumpline still seems to be active (I coud download files with FTP on the right IP address) I have not received any refund of my prepaid fee of this year. I know you have probably a exclusion in your "Acceptable Use Policy" for that case (your "upgrade") but it woud be nice if you coud do the refund.
My cancelation was not because I realy needed all features of the old standard plan but I had that comfortable feeling to have something special.
Sincerely

Dear valued customer:
xxxxx.com is not pointed to Jumpline Nameservers
Registrar: NETWORK SOLUTIONS, INC.
Whois Server: whois.networksolutions.com
Referral URL: http://www.networksolutions.com
Name Server: NS1.newhost.COM
Name Server: NS2.newhost.COM
Updated Date: 07-mar-2002
The Registry database contains ONLY .COM, .NET, .ORG, .EDU domains and
Registrars.
I would have to send off request for the credit and even then, we will not be able to look into it with out the credit card details. They are no on file any longer.
This is what appears for yyyyyy.com as well

If you need real 24*7 Real humans at the helm support, mchost isn't there yet. Tickets get an average response of 6hrs+.
There are periods of darkness [6hrs+] when there's noone there. This may change as Marc says they have 3 new crew coming on soon. But I'll believe that when I see it.
I still want to believe but they are making it damn hard.
NelsonT 03-17-2002, 09:52 AM HostMatters is very good for Linux, I have 2 years experiences with them. CrystalTech is also famous for Windows hosting, but I haven't tried their services.
However, I don't like cpanel, maybe ensim(remarkablehosting) will be another try.

Get a Reseller Account at Cyberwings
http://www.cyberwings.com/partners/resellers/index.html
Then you can log into to plesk and set the accounts up yourself.
Cyberwings now have their own data centre, with 24/7 support.
I've always been able to get support literally within minutes on their IRC Chat room.
Tom Pyles 03-17-2002, 12:21 PM I too am a Jumpline reseller, and upgrade has me so ticked off. I have been hosting sites with them for quite some time, and am now on a first name basis with many of the staff there. They have posted a new thing on their site about why the upgrade went the way it did (Alabanza cancelling their contracts early). I was willing to give Jumpline the benefit of the doubt as they have always been good to me. I've had so many problems with this upgrade, from clients not being able to log in, to sites being down entirely. 2 of my accounts had a default 'Welcome to X***********' index page put on their sites. Nothing like a customer calling me asking why their front page says that. I recieved a call from Jason at Jumpline the other day, inquiring about my issues. He sounded receptive and was really nice on the phone. Several of the issues I discussed with him were fixed within 24 hours. Some of them weren't. The jumpline website states that they have many perl modules installed on their servers, such as the GD.pm, LWP.pm...I need these modules to run a weather service we offer our clients. Those modules are now gone...the support reply stated that the Jumpline.com website is incorrect, and these modules are not installed..I could, however, install them myself. That is not what this upgrade was supposed to be about. I have 100 sites that use our weather branding service, and not one of their weather pages work. (They came up briefly last week, but as of today, there are more errors). I run adcycle on our websites as well, however, nobody is able to connect to their MySQL installs. The error states that access is denied. This is one of the problems that Jason looked into, and was fixed...fixed for 2 days, and now the problem is back. If things are not fixed very quickly, I too, will be looking for another provider.
I have been looking at Venturesonline as another poster pointed out...anybody have other feedback about them.
tkangas 03-17-2002, 01:11 PM I hosted with CrystalTech a few years ago, and had nothing but good experiences with them. I always got prompt tech support, but they did not at the time offer a very good reseller program, or control panel.
I have heard that they have made improvements to both arena's since then, and would consider them for NT based hosting.
Hope this helps.
Sincerely,
Thomas A. Kangas

That wouldn't be too out of place for Alabanza to tell someone one thing and the truth be something completely different.
I feel sorry for Jumpline really, I'm sure they'll bounce back though. It must be difficult having your hand forced in moving over 20k clients in one big chunk.
