I see different types of bandwidth offered to dedicated servers.
Anyone know a website that explains the workings of "bandwidth" - what it is, and how to decipher some of the terminology?
thanx in advance:D

When you get a dedicated server, generally there are 2 types of basic billing for bandwidth:
1. Burstable
Here you are limited to for example 100GB of bandwidth per month, but your server is connected to a fully burstable 100Mbps or even gigabit ethernet connection. This means that if your server gets a lot of requests all at once, it should not have any problems serving up the content.
2. Unmetered
Some companies, including RackShack, offer unmetered ports for your server. These ports are usually slower, 2mbps and 10mbps for example. However the traffic over these ports is not metered, meaning that if you fill your pipe to capacity you will get a lot more bandwidth. However, as the port is limited in size, if you get lots of requests at the same time, this may slow things down.
But anyway... I think you should do a search regarding types of bandwidth here on WebHostingTalk, as this topic has been brought up many times. :)
