Hi Guys,

While I and my team are quite unix literate a lot of our users are not. What software would you all say is the best out for a "users control panel"?

I, being a user, love CPanel and hate hate Plesk. Those are the only 2 I have used.

http://www.psoft.net

They support FreeBSD, RedHat and Windows. They are the only one for under $1000 bucks that support them all as well. :)

Great CP we use it as well. Billing, Support, Sites all in one place..

Hehe....Why does everyone ask this QUESTION. Ok me clear things up.

Every Control Panel has a certain function. Some are designed for the end users......some for the administrators. If you want to know which control panels are the best test them. Every good control panel has a demo avaible some where.

Here are the #1 CPs at this time:

Cpanel - www.cpanel.com - demo at venturesonline.com
Plesk - www.plesk.com - demo at plesk.com
H-Sphere - www.psoft.net - demo at psoft.net
Ensim - www.ensim.com - demo at ensim.com

Check them out and then find the one that suits your need. We can't tell you which one is the best because they are all good. It just depends on what you want/need.

Hope this helped :D

Shaun,

Authorized CPanel Distributor!

You wouldn't be biased there would you? :D
Regardless, I tend to agree with you though.

Hmm, and yes this question does get a lot of air-time... Search buttons are handy for this sort of thing...

I dont see a problem with something like plesk, I like it. For hosting I would go with HSphere probably.

I had cpanel before, but it was in the old days when cpanel had problems of its own (nothing's perfect though). Then, I decided to migrate to Plesk.

Most of my clients are not familiar with unix, but then when I transferred them to Plesk server, many of them like Plesk better and some even thanked me for doing that. So I transferred all my clients to the new server (Plesk) and I receive no complaints whatsoever until today. Some of them were power user and they like it as well.

I myself like Plesk for stability and security reason. And some friends here like CPanel for its features. I heard the new CPanel is great.

Plesk is very simple, neat and clean. Very user friendly, stable and easy to maintain. It has almost all the features needed. On top of that, the Plesk support has been nothing but great. Very responsive and fun to do business with. I also like Plesk forum because people are helping each other like bees. Very nice community. In short, I highly recommend Plesk. :)

I don't disagree with you about it being great, but it's only under $1000 bucks if you host less than ~200 customers and don't want support (or don't find yourself needing the per incident support).

Pricing is at http://www.psoft.net/h_sphere2_pricing.html and judging by the business plans I've seen, it will kill one's bottom line for most people.

We (psoft) have not charged one client yet for per-incident support. Most of the things are covered by basic support.

Plesk gets our vote. It's simple & sweet, and nearly all our customers feel comfortable using it within minutes. We've been able to nearly automate the entire signup/upgrade process.

Though it is a little expensive and there are some bugs in it, our customers love CPanel, I love it too.

WHM is great and I love working with it too.

I have worked with Plesk too. Once I had even installed it on my personal server at home :) It has less bugs but it is very slow in comparison to cpanel/whm and most important has 1/10 of cpanel/whm features!

Cpanel/WHM rocks in features , and I wish they can improve bugs and security. And add owned license option (this is what makes most of hosts unhappy). I am sure they will do this someday at least when more panels come out (hostgui, virtualcp, ...)

So how does this work, if I have 10 customers (Resellers), and each of them have 9 customers, that equals 100 accounts = $450 ?

I like CPanel, I think it's the most user-friendly. Plus you can add subdomains as easy as THAT. :)

Can CPanel create a sub-sub domain? How about creating a sub-sub-sub domain? What I am getting at is, that a subdomain is just another site. So creating subdomains should be no problem with any control panel aslong as you treat them as an individual site.

If you are using private label resellers - where they can create fully featured accounts, that would allow them to use internal billing, TT system, their own dns & autosignup - then yes, it would be 100 accounts.
If you are using basic accounts, that allows hosting multiple domains, and as such have 10 accounts with 9 domains each - it will be only 10 accounts

that is $450 per year ... so if you have 100 customers paying 10/month

total gross = 100 x 10 x 12 = 12,000
cost from psphere = 450

David

No, it is $450 one time fee, and optional $90 / year for all the upgrades/new versions (first year is free)

diyoha

my fault I forgot it was:

20% yearly fee for updates based on the number of licences you have

so if you have 100 accounts then the next yearly fee would be
450 x .2 = $90 / year
(yearly gross would be $12,000 at $10 per account per month)

or if you have 1000 accounts
4500 x .2 = $900 / year
(yearly gross would be $120,000 at $10 per account per month)

not a bad deal. Since you get updates and good support

(note: I may have screwed up the math or some psoft terminology :D)

Whatever you do, don't go with HSphere! Please don't!

Why? Because we use it and love it - it has done things for us I won't talk about in public because it gives us such an edge. Keep using something else... that just helps us beat you out for customers.

In fact, since we've switched to HSphere, our signup rate has quadrupled. And we're putting in fewer hours handling those customers. But forget I said all that - you are our competitors and I certainly would want to give up an advantage.

By the way, I do have CPanel and Ensim servers running too... for a little while longer anyway!

To Igor & the crew at PSoft - Job well done, thank you for your product and support (not that it is needed much)!

Dunthank : Don't tell them all the good stuff.. :)

Only thing is iseletsk telling the truth it is on there site to charge and bleave me they have charged me a thing yet.. There support is good they fix the problem. Only thing i don't like is they never tell me what they did to fix it so i can do it next time.. :)

But hey please don't buy it.. We hope they never lower the price i don't think they should if any thing once all worked out raise it up more.. Don't want every one to have it.. hehe
