Has anyone here had experiences with "Do It Yourself" high-bandwidth hosting (including serving as an ISP to host others' sites)? I can't seem to find a decent hosting service that can give me anything I don't already have at home, but I can't afford to run a T1. What are your stories? How did you do it?

You would basically have to "run your own data center", if you wanted truly reliable hosting. For this, you would need at least:
1. Fast servers, with spare parts available in house
2. Multiple backbone connections for redundancy
3. UPS and power generators
4. Some form of security
5. etc etc...
You get the idea. :D
I think you would be much better off actually co-locating a server with a data center. I think Affordablecolo.com has some good deals starting at $35 a month, plus bandwidth.
