Hello,

I am looking at my options for dedicated environments and I emailed Rack Shack sales deparment two days ago and have yet to receive a response. This brings me to wonder how good is their support??? Usually you can get a host to answer sales inquiries fast then find slow or no support, but this has me a little concerned. Does anyone hosting with them have any information on how things work? Like I want to know how many domains and IP addresses come with the current featured server:

AMD DURON 1GHz
512MB RAM
20GB Hard Drive
Ensim WEBppliance LS3.0
400GB Monthly Transfer

Also how does software upgrades work? Do you apply the upgrades yourself, do you have an option to have them upgrade the system for you when say Ensim releases a patch or a new version?

This is just a few things that have come to mind that I would like answered to help me in deciding where I should take my business.

I would much appreciate any information and expereinces you all may have with Rack Shack. Also while I am asking, might as well ask how reliable and fast is their network? I seen the network page but I would like to know if anyone has encountered excessive downtime or anything serious like that.

Thanks!

John,
Have you tried looking in their forums?
Pretty sure you could get your needed info there.

Ensim has a unlimited domain license... You can also have as many IPs as you want but they do start charging after you get a few, depending on why you need them.

IPs are $2 a month each.

Thanks,

That is what I needed to know. After Martie suggested I look at rackshack's forum, I have spent a long time reading and learned that as long as you can explain the reason for requiring IP's you could get up to 8 IP's Free. No mention as to how much they cost past 8 though. 2.00 is reasonable considering I know other companies who charge more and give you no free IP's.

Obviously with this deal I probably could not offer static IP's with every account and while that will suffice for most because name based hosting works just as well, there are people who will want static IP's or go elsewhere for hosting. Would they allow me to receive and or pay for additional IP's for people who specifically request static IP addresses? On average, what would most of you say would be a reasonable number of websites hosted off one IP address? Is there any kind of limit for reliability and the like? Finally, do major search engines really ignore sites hosted with name based hosting?

Thanks again!

You have to apply upgrades and patches, hence a dedicated server. If you want upgrades and patches installed for you either need to look into managed dedicated hosting or find a good sysadmin. As for RackShack, I have a server with them and they are great...they have a nice network...I've experienced at the most 20 minutes of downtime altogether in the 4 months that I have been with them... As for the IP's they cost $1 each per month, but you need to purchase 7 at once and pya a $25 one time setup fee.

If you are going to purchase the server, please use the link below...

Rackshack's network, in my opinion, is rock solid. My server has been down a total of maybe 10 minutes due to network problems.
As for you not getting a responce very quickly, they probably are very buisy, they have 3250 servers last time I checked and are adding more dailly. You can call their toll free number for sales questions. Or for sales/support tune into their IRC channel.
You get 7 or 8 IPs free of charge, with proper justification. More IPs can be purchased at $1 per month per IP, with a minimum of 7 IPs, and a $25 setup fee.
RackShack Servers are unmanaged...
