View Full Version : If i want to leave Mchost, what options do i have
Thebeginner 03-15-2002, 06:16 AM hi guys
Before i joined with mchost i stayed 2 months on this forum , read about different companies to see which is the best reseller option. I decided to join with mchost. I have been with mchost for 4-5 moths, i don't have to many clients, but it is not the problem.
The problem is too much down time, now my important client is telling me if i do not resolve this problem, she will move all 7 accounts.
I know is a bad time for mchost ( in the last weeks), I trust marc will resolve the problem. The truth is I don't really want to leave mchost because it has fast servers( when is up). But ... what can i do...
I will stay couple days to see maybe everything will be ok
But in the meantime i want to know what choices i have , i want find something similar to mchost ( like plans)
10x alot
doru
Magic 03-15-2002, 06:31 AM Well there is Splashhost and Voxtreme (sp?). Both of them offer services very similar to MChost but at a lower price and with much better uptime.
Personally i would recommend VenturesOnline... they provide very reliable services... something that is essential in running a business.

RE: "uptime" - Is that an opinion of yours or a fact? If it's just an opinion, then that's ok. If it's a fact then I would expect evidence to support your statement. If you have no hard evidence then I would expect you to rephrase your statement to "in my opinion......etc"

Amen to that!! Things could be a lot better at mchost [I am a client] and I have a feeling that things are about to improve. Marc is a smart guy and they have been straining under rapid growth ATM. Just the norm for any fast growing business. I am having some of the same problems as mchost although on a smaller scale etc.

You could try something like http://remarkablehosting.com. They have those Virtual Private Servers that in some ways act like a dedicated box. They're also much cheaper than a dedicated box. I think you can get 25GB data for around $79.95/mth. Not bad really.

Its fact based on my experiences... so i guess you could call it opinion.
I have been monitoring 1 server from each site and MChost had the most downtime and Voxtreme the least... although i must admit that the methods used to monitor were not very accurate... so the results are probably worthless.

IMO, your experiences are probably right. But I don't have hardcore data to support that opinion etc.
I'm not sure why the servers need robooting as much as they do. I have a bunch of sites on the London server and its performance has been less than steller.
IMO, there's heaps of kids with reseller accounts doing things they shouldn't be doing. Shared hosting can suck and the low $35/mth lets these kids come in. Nothing against youth here [heck I wanna be 17 again] but its more their immature attitude and not respecting others on the same box.
But I believe that mchost will improve from these experiences and go onto become a great company.
Paul-UKWSD 03-15-2002, 10:19 AM Try Splashhost, they offer similar plans/prices and they use WHM and CPanel for clients the same as MC Host. The only difference you will find is that Splashhost don't have instant account activation but on the plus side they do have some cool Cpanel skins for the resellers to use.

Just a thought but if that one server from MCHost happened to be Chicago or one or two of the others (there's quite a few servers in the MCHost farm) then yes it would have been pretty bad downtime.
Some of the more established servers have fared a lot better, including mine and I'm not about to name it because I'd rather it didn't become a target if you don't mind ;)
Alan - Vox 03-15-2002, 10:23 AM Just to clarify that, our resellers can set up accounts in WHM instantly, but we dont have an instant account activation script for our resellers to use yet. Note the yet.

Thank God for that!! Spammer just love that "instant account avtivation" feature. The account is all setup and they've done their BS spamming when you find out the credit card was a fraud.
I hope for the sake of all the other resellers on their boxes that they don't offer instant account activation.
agramus 03-15-2002, 11:47 AM Tried Aletia, Tried MCHost, now with SPLASHHOST and could not be happier!! So far, great service, fast loading server.
SplashHost sounds good. It is cheaper than MChost too. I am still not sure.

keith70 03-15-2002, 10:24 PM Don't forget about www.paradise-designs.com
They offer great support!
I´m with Mchost for about 4 months, I have had great service, until last week when they had problems. I belive marc will resolve them.
Looking at Splashhost their plans look nice but they only offer host 60 domains in their Bronze reseller plan, since most of my customers are small companies in south america, that consume very little traffic and space, I will probably use 100 domains and still be below the 1000mb Space and 12gb Data Transfer.
Mchost is more flexible when it comes to hosting domains, that will make them better priced in the long end.
If Splashhost were more flexible on the domains issue, I belive their offer will beat many other reseller hosting companies.

WHich MCHost server were you monitoring?
Magic 03-16-2002, 07:12 AM well i was using a custom script to ping each server every 5 mins. It ran off a communitech server which had 99.96% uptime during the 30 day period. If there was no response within 2 seconds... it was considered downtime.
The MChost server was tahiti... dont worry, i didnt monitor chicago ;)
callumhender 03-16-2002, 07:14 PM <<Removed>>
Magic 03-16-2002, 07:24 PM This is essentially an advertisement... please keep all adverts in the advertisement forums.
Neo3Net 03-16-2002, 10:12 PM I think SplashHost.com is a great host they don't have that much downtime and have great support.
callumhender 03-16-2002, 10:16 PM opps, sorry.
The Laughing Cow 03-17-2002, 03:24 PM I was always thinking 50/50 splashhost/mchost however since the allegation of mchost attacking splashosts servers I would think splashost would be the way to go.
I find that paradise-designs are also excellent!
web docta 03-17-2002, 08:02 PM I had to get another reseller account at the beginning of this month as my last hosts were down all the time (Hostonce and Sterlet). I was looking at McHost & Splashhost and trying to decide as they both seemed pretty respected here. I went with Splashhost and I'm very happy but what bothers me is what happened to McHost? Can a host go downhill that fast - and why?
MCHost-Marc 03-17-2002, 08:25 PM Downhill? We haven't gone downhill at all. See my last reply in this thread: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=39801&pagenumber=2. Yes, we've had some issues and we're working on correcting them. Small hosts have little or no complaints if something goes wrong, large hosts have more. If you see complaints from 4 or 5 customers out of 1000's, that doesn't mean a hosting company is about to fall apart ...it means that there are issues that need to be resolved and worked on. Its a part of every company's growth.
WCSWEB 03-17-2002, 08:32 PM Everybody here mentions only splashhost or mchost but don't forget datahosts.net they are verry good in the hosting industry.
Their Uptime is excellent, Their support is very helpfull and knowledgeable and their plans are great as well check them out
;) I'm a extremely happy customer with datahosts. Plus they also run Plesk which is a more stable control panel then whm and cpanel wich are always full of bugs

If you read my statement what I was asking was "can a host go downhill that fast - and why?". I wasn't "specifically" referring to McHost although I can see why you would have taken it that way. Your point is well taken about quantity vs. complaints. I'm sure that you will work out your problems.
mk123 07-26-2002, 06:17 PM All i can add is Sterlet.net sucks!!! Experience the Wierdest Support here!
baldscarface 07-26-2002, 07:57 PM I have signed up with Serverplex and so far they have been great!
Aussie... you talk about kids.. I'm not for sure what you mean. My brother (16) now uses my (old) mchost account - but he doesn't do anything wrong, bad, or otherwise.
Stereotypes suck

I've got no idea what you're talking about.
Maybe a passing comment I made many months ago in this thread about kids with their reseller accounts?? I'm sorry if I offended all the 15yr old hosts out there. :cartman:
Samuel 07-27-2002, 12:49 AM I am a nerd
web docta 07-27-2002, 07:39 AM How the heck did this thread get resurrected after 4 months?

sorry didn't realize that post date was like.. months ago. I was just slightly miffed at the age deal. Like I said.. my little bro is 16 and works hard to keep the couple of customers he has happy.
Tetraboy 07-27-2002, 05:46 PM Geeze... It was 3 months ago or something. A lot of the stuff posted may have been "true" then but not now such as the mchost attacking splashhosts. I don't remember exactly but I think someone used a open or cracked mchost proxy to attack splashhost.
Samuel 07-27-2002, 05:56 PM never got the real story :D
If you want information don't go to mchost for it lo
Fadi T. 07-28-2002, 07:29 AM how about mdit.net, i think they have good uptime as i heard from another user here on these forums and better prices
Fiber 07-29-2002, 06:51 AM Ventures Online is a great option...
I have been with them for over a year, and it's nothing but: phenominal. Support, stabilty, uptime.
giftswhlsle 07-29-2002, 01:46 PM I see a lot of bashing for MChost. Nothing against them but they need to fix up their act as support is key. ......... I had similar experiences with some other hosting companies ....... the reseller babies do make a lot of problem to sift through and find a good hoster..... No email Reply, down time that all sucks............ Currently I am using http://www.ehostpros.com as my hoster......... I have been with em for about a month and have had no problemO's ............ would like any one to chk em out the ........ Plans arnt bad either............ For every one good luck finding a good hoster as that can make or break ur business :)
edude 07-29-2002, 02:25 PM Remarkablehosting is a great company :agree:
They are very reputable..
Definetly worth a look at..
