What tld looks more responsible and professional, how you think? I am asking about domain tld of any company not only web host.

.com for a standard commercial entity. I'd purchase both though.

Try asking in the domain name forum.

Problem with domain name extensions is that so many darn people, including me, are so used to typing .com that they do it even when they know the correct extension. It's less a matter of "respect" and more a matter of "will they get to a different site" since they remember the first part and, by force of habit, type .com

Obviously .com is the one to have, but a company should register all common TLDs of it's name =)

.com all the way.

You will lose sales if you own the .net, and someone with a similar business owns the .com.

Most of the meaning behind .com and .net..etc. has been lost, but I agree with all of the above in that .com rules! That said, I'd also pick up the .net!

well .com of course...

but web hosts can get away with .net becuase it makes sense as a provider of "network services".

still as others say grab them both. if you like the sound of .net better than just have the .com redirect to the .net. that way atlest you know your customers won't get lost trying to find you.

Why would anybody else use a .net when even web hosting companies use .com? ;)

My vote is for .com, too.

When people are in doubt about the extension they will try .com or their ccTLD first. So many people still think a webaddress starts with www and ends with .com (or their ccTLD) ;)

I have allways like .com domains because they look best.

It's bad, cause good .com domain is already taken. And the only way I see is register .com domain that contain one word in esperanto :) It's sounds weird I guess, but the name is short - only 5 signs.

I think every day the domains .net are going to be more important, like .com domains

If .com is avalible, I would buy a .com.

Else I would change the name. :p

when you get a .net looks like it was just because the .com wasn't available

^ I dont think this is always true..
I own a '.net' domain myself which is ranked significantly higher / better than the '.com'..

I register both (and my ccTLD [.co.uk]). Or I'll just go with the .com or .co.uk

I think it doesn't really matter for me, both .com and .net are used very much, although the professional and long-standing companies use .com (often also a .net which redirects to the .com).

But it also depends on what you're going to use the domain for.

There's no problem with having a .net, I mean heck, it does sound better sometimes. Like TheSilverblade said, it also depends on what you're going to use the domain for.

If I had a group that did networking, most likely I would chose a .net. However, buying both the .com and .net would be the smartest choice. This way if someone doesn't remember, they still end up in the same place. :)

.com is the way to go IMO.

My only doubt is: how effective is a IDN (multilingual) dot com domain?

I am going to make website similar to http://www.newjobdirect.co.uk/ but for US. So .com domain will be much much better. It's so hard to devise good domain name...

.COM is best, unless you are a web host or internet service provider, then you should use .NET (but buy the .COM as well to prevent someone from typosquatting on it).

always get a .com and then get a .net as well to have it forwarded to the .com
