I have a dilemma.

I have a site which is a forum just like this one. I get about 1 000 000 unique visitors a month and 3 000 000 page views. THe main forum page is 100k or 0.1MB. This calculates to about 300 GIG of transfer per month. At anytime there are max 200 users on site. And a total of 20000 a day. I need a hosting option that can host that forum (300MB of space). I been searching forever. Plus I don't wanna pay $1000 a month.

please letme know if you know anything

How much are you planning on spending. Give us what your budget is and we'll (this forum) try to help you out.

Hi,

Be realistic, your budget US$ 500.00/mo is not enough to cover 300 gigs data transfer.
Get sponsors from big boys like Doubleclick, flycast etc.
3 Mil page views/mo will make thousand dollars for u.

Then get dedicated, try cheapservers.net or Ultraspeedusa.com.

Thx.

I agree, even at $3/gig thats a $900 bill your looking at! Even more on a 95% network.

Where is it at now? What are they doing about your traffic, is that why your have to leave? I dont see many options right now, that traffic cost and someone has to pay. I'll keep my eyes peeled for something that may help you finance that traffic.

emmanuel, I think 100K for a forum page is a bit too much. I am almost certain this can be reduced drastically. Can you point us to where your site is now so we can take a look and provide specific suggestions?

There's lots of room for savings in your index.html file. I looked at the source, and I see tons of comments. Remove those, and you will save quite a bit. Use tables instead of all those <br> tags and aviod unecessary white space.

I looked at your statistics, and it seems almost half of your users reload the front page? this is unnecesary. If the current board generates the page on the fly, move to a board which would generate a static HTML file and update it when a new message arrives. This can save you at least 30-40% of reloads.

Another thing you might want to look into is using CSS. Instead of repeating all those <font> tags, define a class and use it.

If you attack this problem aggresivly, I can see your bandwidth lowered to about half what it is now if not more.

Anyway, this is not a site to be put on a shared server, so you must be prepared to pay 300-500 a month to host it.

You may want to maximize your usage by going to adbility.com they list some adult banner providers. Ones that 'usually' pay.

At that point you can find something help pay for the site usage on a server. Which actually you may be better off with co-location or dedicated at that point. It would be cheaper.

As for the 300 gigs, your website has room for A LOT of improvement and optimisation techniques. I hihgly recommend going to a website called http://www.webpagesthatsuck.com

I don't mean to insult, but thats just the name of the site. It will teach you GREAT optimisation techniques about your webpage/s

Also overall learning GOOD site design from bad design.

Took a look at http://raven.maxim.net and got nothing but 404's past the front page. You might want to look at your site in case something nasty is happening
