View Full Version : 64 bit = any compatible control panels and billing?

What packages do people know that *do* work on 64 bit operating systems (preferably FreeBSD)?

I haven't kept great notes but I know I've seen notes that certain control panels, billing packages, and other hosting software are not 64 bit compatible. I remember that Fantastico and Hsphere are not.

If I were crazy enough to try and run shared hosting on, for example, a system with SPARC 64 bit architecture, what would my choices be if any?

Thank you!
d.

PSP 4.0 XL has been running fine on Sun Sparc on 64bit Solaris back in 2001, I guess even before that (but that's the point when I myself have used it). Could never find out though where to license it and not sure whether it still exists. From the current batch, I've read something in the cPanel logs about 64bit stuff a couple of days ago.

I'm not sure why you would want to do that today anyway? A dual Opteron should give you more power than the old Sparc machines (AFAIK Sun gave up on them some years back, or am I mistaken?).

I tried setting up a server running cPanel and 64 bit. It did not work out. It turns out the whole machine would crash every few hours, especially cpanel. In fact, one time I had to have the datacenter reinstall fedora since /usr partition was totally corrupted. I would stay away for a bit longer maybe by the end of the year this stuff will be worked out.

Yeah, I've got my answer... :) Just asking, I've got access to some Sun gear and was curious. I'm ending up on a 32 bit dual proc machine.

Thanks guys -
