I'm not sure what do you mean best directories - there are many quality directories and each one has its specialties... Also, if you'll post the URL of your company I could make a recommendation, at the moment it is difficult to determine how much you should spend if we don't have details about your company.

Who is the best Hosting Directory is a very broad question. Kind of like how long is a piece of string.

Speaking as a consumer - when I tried to find web hosting I didn't find any directories of tremedous value to me - too many ads & not enough real information or ability to get a good grasp on what the right deal was. Things like Top25 hosts, spotlights etc provided me as a consumer nothing but confusion.

All of the directories have value and some are more valuable than others - more so if you already know what you want / need.

I personnaly prefer FindSP.com they are very good and have a good amount of visitors.

Our company plans on spending around $500/Month on advertising to start.

Google adwords is not that great anymore, there are so many hosts using it that your ad may not get displayed that often. I put an ad up using the term 'web hosting' - which gets thousands of searches per day - but because Google only has 8 adwords spots per search and those eight spots are beign shared by god knows how many hosts our ad only displayed 8 times in 3 days! 8 impressions (no clicks) from thousand of searches - a waste of time.

I have found Overture to be great - because you have full control on how and when your ad gets displayed, plus you can do a custom ad for each search term. Our first day advertising on Overture we made 100x more than we spent! (obviously our ads are being placed in the top 3 to ensure they get on places like MSN and AOL). You have to spend a minimum of $20 per month with Oveture and there is an intial fee of $50 - which is non refundable but is put towards your click payments. If you bid on low cost search terms that only get a few hundred impressions per month then you can still generate a decent amount of traffic for your site while not paying through the nose. But, it is good to note that ads for search terms with more than 2 words will not be posted at MSN (they still get posted every where else as far as I know)

For web hosting directories - findahost.com and webhostdir.com seem to be good.

Thats a good point about adwords but if you dont use the search term "Web Hosting" but instead using


"My new website" or somethings like that it goes a long way and has a better click rate

I know myecom have banner exchange function.There are about 4 thousnad people using banner exchange to earn money from myecom.But banner exchange cannot earn money now.I am afraid the no. of people using banner exchange people will decrease.as a result,your click through rate will decrease.
