Who is the best webhost? Pound for pound, offers the most compared to reliability and customer service and satisfaction?

No reseller names please. Direct sources only.
For shared hosting not dedicated.***

Some resources to help you decide:

So far, I'm thinking it's between these:

Hostway, Site5, Affinity

Hostway:

Site5:

Affinity:

This is like saying what is the best fast food restaurant. Or who is the hottest woman around. (These samples didn't come from your username ;)). Evey person will have their own "best". So the answer is no one. Only you can decide that based off of numerous recommendations.

Most of the big hosting indexes give out "top 10"-type awards to their "top 10 biggest advertisers". I'm not saying all hosting indexes do this, but many do. That explains why ***** keeps winning awards, even though they must be one of the worst hosts out there.

All webhosting directories are paid for by sponsers. You will also notice that the highest rated hosts are sponsers.

For total satisfaction you should go with a well estabalished host that have a reliable history of providing good service.

I would consider FutureQuest, pair.com, etc. to be among the "best".

You cant really pick a 'best' webhost as everyone has different needs... most people who are with a webhost who are not unhappy, most likely believe they are with the 'best' host for their needs...

Ok ppl... let's teach this person... never, NEVER use those directories...

there are a few threads out there on the NET that shows that these directories are either sleeping with or owned by a host in their "TOP 5" - this is FACT...

I will find the article...

lates!

Whichever Web host I happen to be using at the time that I am asked. :D

Sorry, but I can't tell you their name, because then you and everyone else will sign up for them, and then they won't be the best Web host any more. ;)

Sure you can. It is www.umbillycordwebhost.org. Our motto is "We are the best web host. Pound for pound!"

Alright, so nobody is going to list their favorite or best or say which one of those three I listed is the best in their opinion.

So what webhost is everyone with?

And which webhosts have you been through to get there? In other words, the ones that sucked, and the one your at that is good.

And if you can, tell me which one of these is better,

Hostway, Site5, Affinity

Thankx

Also,

If someone asks you what you think..

You can always say, I don't have exerience in all things to answer you.

So to say you can't answer who is best, because you haven't tried them all, is kind of dumb. If this method of thinking was applied to everything in life, you would never have opinions, thoughts, ideas, etc.

Since life is about progress, and trial and error, the best will always be the best of what you've experienced so far, or heard so far.

Just my thoughts on critical thinking and life.

:D

Also, even if you don't believe that, for the sake of humanity or kindness, you'd answer my question by stating, "I'm not sure who is the absolute best...yet in my experience this is the best so far.."

Instead of giving me 15 posts on why you cannot answer the question. lol

Also, you said the host ranking sources are a sham...etc.. well, wizardhosting is advertised on practically every page here, and you guys promote them here saying they are good. Hmmm.. Does that mean, you guys are a sham?

Or will you say, it doesn't apply. And be hypocrites.

Big difference... Wizardhosting is paying Web Hosting Talk. Not us. We don't receive anything from Wizard, just as you don't. The other listing services that you asked about do their own "ranking" of hosts. They're not formed from public opinion as they are here.

Sometimes, when soliciting the advice of othes, it's best not to be an ass.

One reason that we are hesitant to say who is "the best" is that many of us (myself included) are hosts ourselves. I'm not going to say anyone is the best when I know that my service is. However, I wont promote my service here (not even in my signature) because that's not what I'm here for.

So, there is no "best"... Some excellent hosts, from my experience and I certainly don't speak for anyone else:

Hostrocket
HostMatters
VenturesOnline

I've used all three of these and had no problem with any of them.

Well.. I'm with Site5 since about a month and I've been very happy with them. Definitely the best host I've been with since I started hosting sites (feature/price/support wise).

Before I've been with ***********, where support was great but it was very expensive. Before Hostex I've been with Superb.net (also expensive), 9virtualave.net (I think.. they don't exist anymore, it was basically a disaster there) and NetNation.com (good support but expensive).

My only reason to move from those hosting providers (except 9virtualave, where everything was bad) was the prices they charged. My needs changed and growing there was more expensive than moving to a provider that fit my needs better for a better price :).

It looks like I might stay with Site5 longer than I've stayed with the other providers tho! :)

I am a web designer, and signed up with Affinity over 4 years ago, when they were new. And during the first 3 years, never had any problems. If I needed to call them, they were always right there. I had enough confidence in them to become a reseller, with 5 accounts (one was my own and 4 were clients' sites). But now I wish I had never gotten involved with reselling, because I have experienced a major downslide in quality and service with Affinity over the past year. A LOT of email server problems too. Which means that my clients are frequently calling me about their email not working. Affinity merged with another company last year, and perhaps that is what triggered the problems. Enough was enough, I decided to no longer be a reseller. I asked that the reseller account be changed back into five individual accounts like they used to be. This is just an administrative/billing change, not any technical change to the hosting. You would think this would be no big deal, however Affinity screwed everything up. First, they took weeks to finally do it and did not notify me when they finally did do it. Then all the control panels were not functioning. I called and called and emailed and emailed trying to get that straightened out. Then, without any notice to me whatsoever, they suspended three of the accounts! I had to spend more time on the phone getting that straightened out. Finally, three of the control panels are now working, but tech support so far has ignored my requests to fix the other two (one is mine and one is my client's). There have been other problems as well. During one of my many tech support calls, I asked the person, "What is going on at Affinity? I have been with you guys for 4 years and have never had problems with tech support or billing until this year!" All this person said is that there had been layoffs at the company recently. So Affinity obviously is not doing as well as they claim to be doing financially. I am sick of begging this company to do its job!!!! I am looking elsewhere for a host who cares and won't burn me, which is what brought me to this forum.

UPDATE: Out of curiosity, I just checked with the Better Business Bureau (www.bbb.org) regarding Affinity Internet. Guess what their report says? "Based on our standards, we rate this company as having an unsatisfactory business record..."

Good luck in your search Shell. A long term client such as yourself would be an asset to any host.

For what its worth, my two favorites as a web host *user* are:

www.Site5.com
www.Pair.com

You can search on Site5 and Pair.com here on WHT and read the comments on each for yourself. You can't go wrong with either; perhaps one or the other will have a package or a service that you desire.
