Hi
i'm looking for some domain names for new sites and all good ones without - in them are taken by mass domain registration (wa****s) companies.
so my other option is some thing like this
www.word1-word2-word3.com
what are you opinions on these type of domains?

Well, dashes are definitely best to avoid.
But now in your situation, you can use
dashes as last resort. ;) Otherwise try to
go for a .net or first character of the word
etc :)

2 hyphens in a name? forget it, look for something with different keywords.

I don't know much about this but from reading other boards some people mention it is BETTER to have the dashes sometimes. Surprised you guys are so against them..I have no insight on it, just sayin.

I think most people in this forum are against hyphens in a domain name because
- they are difficult to spell (over the telephone, for example)
- people might remember the domain name, but not the hyphen
- hyphens are not part of "natural writing"
But in some countries (like Germany) hyphens are very common in domain names
and not considered as bad or unprofessional. Personally, I don't have any problems
with hyphens in a domain name. But one hyphen per domain name is enough ;)

Dashes can be fine provided your repeat visitors can remember the dashes. As for the keyword - what makes you think you need the keyword in the domain name? It used to be conventional wisdom that a keyword in a domain name provide an SEO advantage but the search engines outgrew that a while ago.
