Linux was made to be a free version of Unix, and has exploded in popularity due to its open source and constant updates and free usage. Linux and Unix are both great OS's to run hosting on. Linus made a Unix OS and turned it open source so others could freely help develope it. His name... Linu(s) made uniX.. equals Linux ... Linus's free Unix was too long of a name,,, thus Linux was born. There are as many simularities and differences, but the biggest difference you see as a user is price.
