I see companies and individuals chiming in on threads about their competitors quite often and this strikes me as slightly amiss. Unless they are referenced directly, shouldn't they stay out? Just curious to know if I'm the only one who gets annoyed by this.

There has been quite a shift in attitudes at WHT in the last year or so, marked by people taking gratuitous pot shots at each other where once there was an atmosphere of cooperation. It's driven a number of quality posters and hosts away, and these forums have suffered as a result. This may also be partly due to the fact that WHT is down to essentially one moderator and he can't be everywhere at once.
Hosts bashing hosts or trying to trump a competitor with $10/year hosting and similar nonsense does the community no good. The trend can turn around only, I think, by hosts behaving as leaders and setting a good example. Unfortunately, lately I see only one or two hosts that consistently do that.

But not because I consider it part of the game. This is not a game.
I voted yes because it is one of the means I have to judge the integrity and character of the hosting services that I contract with. Indeed, I chose one of my current hosts specifically because of the manner in which she not only contributed to a thread about a competitor, but she also left a positive comment. So far, this method of selecting hosts for my sites has been the best of any of the methods I've tried.
So let everyone comment where ever she or he pleases. But remember, who wants to do business with someone who slings mud?
