There are a lot of companies who advertise free IPs. But when I go to them and ask if I can get 2-3K free IPs for anonymous DNS servers to be hosted on one physical server, the answer is always "no". I end up with $0.5/IP a month or something like this.

Am I asking wrong companies? Anyone had experience getting a sustantial amount of IPs for free? Where?

2k - 3k IPs for anoymous use is not only rediculous but is against Arins guidelines. Ip address space isnt unlimited we need to conserve and assigning a unique ip for each dns is unneeded and wasteful.

While I dont think i would ever charge customers for IP's i would def. not ever give you 2000 -3000 ips for anonymous dns usage, i cant image a single provider who would.

IP's aren't free for the provider either, keep in mind. However, unless you provided justification (like a list of the DNS servers that the IP's were going to be used for), I wouldn't blindly give you 3000 IP's either.

I am looking at ARIN guidelines now and can not find anything against 2,000 IPs for 2,000 DNS servers:

http://www.arin.net/regserv/initial-isp.html
http://www.arin.net/regserv/ip-assignment.html

RFC 2050:
http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc2050.html

All of the guidelines above stress the importance of proper utilization of previously allocated IPs, but none of them mention anything against having 2,000 IPs allocated to 2,000 nameservers.

So, the question remains, is there a place where one can go to get 2,000 IPs for 2,000 DNSes?

Perhaps i misunderstood you let me get clarification on what you are trying to do so i can help you.

Are you requesting 2k - 3k IP's at one time for use on one server?

It could be just one or two servers in each datacentre dedicated to hosting those nameservers, so indeed, it will look like 2,000 IPs per one server.Originally posted by jkehe

Charles i suppose that is similar to what i do. I have about 500 ip numbers in total now i think. They are spread across multiple servers but if i was doing all the dns from one server then i would need 500 ip numbers all on one server.

Well see most companies state in their TOS or tell you that IPs are free for 90% usage and must follow Arin regulations.
