View Full Version : Hotel - Hyatt, Hilton...?
Rochen 04-27-2005, 03:17 PM The only thing left to do is book the hotel :)
I was doing some research and have so far read some very negative reviews on the Hyatt Regency Rosemont, more negative than positive.
Anyway, I was wondering if someone who knows the Chicago area could tell me if the Hilton Chicago O'Hare Airport (http://www.hilton.com/en/hi/hotels/index.jhtml;jsessionid=GF32OMVALJAEOCSGBIVM22QKIYFC3UUC?ctyhocn=CHIOHHH) hotel was anywhere near the Hyatt / Convention center?
The Hilton Chicago (http://www.hilton.com/en/hi/hotels/index.jhtml;jsessionid=GF32OMVALJAEOCSGBIVM22QKIYFC3UUC?ctyhocn=CHICHHH) looks pretty decent, but I suspect that is pretty far away from the convention center, so wouldn't be worth it.
Any comments / feedback welcome... :)
- Chris
sirtwist 04-27-2005, 03:27 PM It's about 10 minutes away and would require some type of transportation. I'm not sure where you saw the negative reviews, but the Hyatt has recently undergone a complete renovation and from everything I've seen (I've been there quite a few times) is a very nice hotel.
Rochen 04-27-2005, 03:41 PM The reviews I read were from a year or so ago, so I guess things may have improved, if it has been renovated since then.
:)

sirtwist 04-27-2005, 04:20 PM Their website is at http://www.ohare.hyatt.com/. There are some good pictures there and information on the renovation, I believe.
UH-Matt 04-30-2005, 08:37 AM Rochen,
Im renting a massive truck so if you want me to pick you up from the Hilton, just hola! ;)
We booked into the Hyatt to keep it simple. I plan to do some drinking ;)
Rochen 04-30-2005, 01:05 PM Yeah, I ended up just making a reservation at the Hyatt too. As you said, it keeps stuff simple.
I can always change the reservation anyway, as it can be cancelled one-day before arrival without any penalty and they don't charge you until checkout. I figure it will be alright for a few nights though.
Can't wait to see this truck Matt... :D Here's to those Americans thinking us Brits drive small cars :stickout:

lionfire 04-30-2005, 04:53 PM The gas is going to be expensive as all other though up there unfortunately! Those trucks will drink up all that gas in no time too :)
sirtwist 04-30-2005, 05:03 PM Yeah, but as high as our gas prices are here compared to what we're used to, they're NOTHING compared to the prices of Petrol in the UK. :)
lionfire 04-30-2005, 06:02 PM That's true... I keep forgetting its really expensive over there too :) I wish it would go back to $1.50 around here... would make life much easier. Those up in NJ and NY are lucky that its not 2.00 yet! It's 2.25+ down here right now :(
Gas expensive? Well if you call that expensive you certainly don't want to come to Holland.. it's much worse here :)
After the hostingcon we'll be driving all the way from Chicago to Atlanta.. should be a nice roadtrip
lionfire 05-31-2005, 02:50 AM Good lord that is a long drive! Atlanta is an awesome city though. Be sure to check out downtown near the CNN Center and such... The weather will still be real nice too :)
It's only like 600 miles. We were originally planning to just go by plane but a roadtrip is more fun :)

I drove 530ish from Chicago to Eastern TN 6 times since last June, back and forth as we were looking at, buying and then moving to our new house, and an Extra trip for our Wedding in TN after we had moved here.. it is a decent trip though... Mouse
lionfire 06-01-2005, 07:19 PM true :) I was tempted to drive from Raleigh, NC to the convention, but I have a new car and I want to keep my warranty for a bit longer, lol You will have fun though! Road trips are the best
Yeah I'm from Europe so we'll have to hire a car.. not to worried about that :)
lionfire 06-02-2005, 04:39 PM eh... we are at the Hyatt now... a little discouraged that there are no real restauraunts within walking distance. We were told by the concierge that the closest mcdonalds is a mile away... there is a bus station though so thats all good, otherwise, the hotel is nice :)

Welcome to Chicagoland... the Restaurant in the hotel is pretty good, we have had lunch there a couple of times.. Mouse
lionfire 06-02-2005, 04:46 PM We may try that :) We are getting a pizza from a place that starts with a G... its down the street from the hotel and has been mentioned here... Never had a true Chicago pizza before, so this ought to be interesting ;) They kinda gave me a funny look when I asked about whether or not they had garlic sauce with their pizza, lmao

lol.. deep dish or thin crust? imnot a fan at all of the Chicago style DD's, but thin crust is good.. Mouse
lionfire 06-02-2005, 05:04 PM we went with deep dish and it is delicious... i've only had the tostitos they served us on the plane today!
IntraHost 06-02-2005, 05:16 PM Giordano's (sp). Maybe I'll have that for dinner now, haha. :) Thier thincrust is great too!
lionfire 06-02-2005, 05:21 PM :) I am amused at the fact that 1.5 slices filled me up... generally it takes 3 or 4 back home at your average pizza hut, etc. Guess I should og gotten a medium...
IntraHost 06-02-2005, 05:23 PM You have to take into account that a Geordoniaososa (now i'm just spelling it wrong on purpose) is about 4 thing pizza's stacked on top of each other, or two to two and a half regular (pizza hut type) pizza's.
Normally one big slice does me too.
Is anyone else amused that the conversations lately have been about food, weather, and what to do in Chicago outside the conference? ;-)
lionfire 06-02-2005, 05:24 PM heh :P when you come in like 4 days early, you got to figure that stuff out :) *belches* now what to do with the remainder of this pizza... may be time for a napin a few...

And here George and I are slaving away still on last minute details.. sheesh.. lol.. Mouse
sirtwist 06-02-2005, 06:12 PM Sleep? Food? Fun?

I figured I may actually rent a car :D
I'll get there tomorrow, is there a good bar in the hotel? I need a drink already.

Yes, one or two of them.. Mouse
sirtwist 06-02-2005, 06:28 PM RackmountMicro: Don't forget you can also just hop on the Blue Line train to downtown and be there in like 15 minutes. Great way to go get some dinner. :)
lionfire 06-02-2005, 08:01 PM :) We are planning to do that tomorrow actually. My partner and I were both up very late and hear early morning flights today, so we are just resting around the hotel and catching up on some things today and taking care of customer stuff. I look forward to getting more out and about the city tomorrow...
