View Full Version : how do you sell MChost plans?
kickster 03-13-2002, 10:19 PM They offer 12 GB for $35
I dont know hoe people can make money on these plans. I understand that you have to over sell in this business but by how much?
Lets say I sell 10 GB plus 100 MB for $10 per month. What percentage of users will use close to 10 GB? if they do use 5 GB I still lose money!!!
Isnt it better to sell packages like VO? this way you will make 50% profit no matter what.
Alan - Vox 03-13-2002, 10:21 PM You dont need to offer that much bandwidth, offer something more realistic like 500mb to 2gb
21inchguns 03-13-2002, 10:42 PM not many users will come close to using the 10GB, but if even one does, then it becomes a problem.....just make sure that you can always cover what you offer...
If you are interested in offering more, then VO might be the way to go...it's really just a matter of assessing what works best for you...
kickster 03-13-2002, 11:05 PM well isnt better to offer packages like VO rather than use reselling from Mchost?
It is much easier to sell
20 GB for $40 and make $20 in profit
than sell 10 GB for $40 and make a $5 profit!!
Good point.
I would do 100MB disk storage and 1200 MB of disk transfer for $7.00 a month. That is equivalent to 100% profit. But altogether, you make $420. It is better to have $820 than $420, but you still have to find clients first. So maybe it is not worth it.

Kickster, if you are a reseller with VO, you can buy the 20GB package for $12.50/mo. If you decide to sell it for $40/mo, that means you will make about $25 profit (taking out the CC processing charges).
kickster 03-14-2002, 10:45 AM Amazon thats even better :D
I think I am going to go with VO. Their plans seems to be much more sellable.
CrazyHostGuy 03-18-2002, 11:30 AM In my experience, the vast majority of customers don't come anywhere near even 2 gb of data transfer..... but that will really depend on the size of the website in question.
Currently, 0.33% of our customers use more than 1 gb data transfer. So that's not very many :)
Cheers.
Rob.
Ventures Online is much cheaper. I should check it out. You are right. Most people probably don't use all of their bandwidth anyway.
parawing742 03-18-2002, 07:21 PM Assuming using MCHost plan 4 with no overselling you can offer the following:
25MB / 400MB / $1.23
50MB / 800MB / $2.46
100MB / 1600MB / $4.92
200MB / 3200MB / $9.84
Those prices would be your cost (as a reseller) per month. Of course, you may want to oversell bandwidth on smaller accounts.

CrazyHostGuy 03-18-2002, 07:53 PM A bottle of Scotch, I believe. :D :D
TheMMIz 03-18-2002, 10:15 PM Hey guys,
who's VO?
VO = VenturesOnline = http://www.VenturesOnline.com . Try doing a search of them on the forums, I dont think you will find a negative post about them.
Mike Feury 03-18-2002, 10:32 PM VO is Ventures Online (http://www.venturesonline.com) :)
I'm looking at getting into reselling in the next few months, and the way I see the VO v MCH decision is :
If you're aiming at a particular market which would have reasonably large sites & traffic, then VO could make sense.
However, if you're aiming at a general "whoever signs up" market, or a large number of small sites [like I'll be doing], then I think the flexibility of plans like MCH's is better. You could probably host 100 small sites on MCH's basic plan, which should be a nice margin v your $35 base cost.
