View Full Version : Alwayswebhosting.com - STELLAR service
code_renegade 03-13-2002, 10:02 AM Okay guys, first off, I've got to state that I'm in no way affiliated with alwayswebhosting.com, but after the great service I've been receiving from them, I think this little report is the least I can do for them. I’m not going to be benefiting in any ways if you guys do sign up with them (unless I get free hosting ;))
To clear up a few issues, one thing I know is that a ton of people will jump at me for blatantly promoting a host that offers “umlimited bandwidth”. But one thing about alwayswebhosting.com is that they are honest about how umlimited is umlimited. I’ve got word from Ron of alwayswebhosting.com that I can do up to 30Gb no problem – even when I’m on their cheapest plan. Sure, there is no such thing as true “unlimited” bandwidth, but for that amount of transfer at less than $.50 a Gb, I think I’m getting a very good deal here :D Ron has confirmed that they’ve got accounts doing 60Gb of transfer a month, but those guys are still running their sites and are in no danger of being shut down – now that’s a host that’s honouring “unlimited”!
An important feature for their hosting service is that they take Paypal. Okay, so some of you guys don’t like it, but for me, it works great, because I can track my payments, and my CC number is not revealed at all. For some paranoid end users like me, the ability to pay using Paypal had been great.
Another great thing about their accounts – unlimited domain setups for each account! While you can’t setup the domains yourself, Ron had always been able to setup the additional domains for me in less then 3 hours each, once within 15 minutes even! I’m now hosting a few friends under my account. Works out to a great price for each account if you look at it this way. And it’s a great way to get friends introduced to paid hosting so that they can learn some stuff before plunging in like me (and giving Ron nightmares :D) Ron has confirmed that a reseller plan is under works, so I would like to think that we can start adding domains ourselves in the near future.
Of course, no hosting experience is complete without support, and only one word can describe their support service – STELLAR. I’ve NEVER had an email go unanswered for more than 6 hours (one must take into consideration the fact that I live halfway across the planet from where the server is), but most of the time, I get replies from Ron within 2 hours or less! How is that for service? Not only that, the replies have been extremely helpful – I’m a complete newbie when it comes to paid hosting, so I wanted someone who would be able to walk me through the entire experience patiently, and believe me, I am very satisfied with the amount of answers and help I’ve been getting from Ron, despite me being on their cheapest plan of a mere $9.95 a month! True 24/7 support :D
Then, there’s the biggest, and probably, the best incentive (aka Ron’s biggest headache) for me about alwayswebhosting.com. I’ve been eyeing a piece of open source e-commerce software, but haven’t been able to get it to work. In fact, I’ve messed my account up countless times trying to get it to work. I can honestly tell you that I would be at a complete loss if it weren’t for Ron! Not only did he do COMPLETE installs over nth times (yes, Ron had to work so hard, so many times that I think we both lost count) trying to get it to work right (bugs, not that Ron is incapable ;)), he had been very willing to help me out by downloading the relevant patches and the likes for the server that my store is running on to ensure that it works properly. He has even gone right into the PHP codes in an attempt to help me work out the messes created. It’s amazing – the kind of service level that one can get despite being on their cheapest plan :) He had been so patient and helpful, if it weren’t for him, I think I would still be stuck at trying to get even the basic working!
Right now, my store is under works (on my part), and once it works, I’ll be rotating banner ads for Ron as my way of saying thanks. I’ve got some friends hosted with Ron right now on my account – no complaints from them so far, and believe me, they can be a very picky bunch if they want to :) The service had been completely newbie friendly, very helpful, and I’ve been very happy with the uptime as well.
From a purely consumer point of view, I say, go for their hosting service. I know you wouldn’t be disappointed. I know I haven’t been ;)
ginakra 03-13-2002, 10:56 AM I'm with you, avium! :) AlwaysWebHosting is teriffic, Ronnie has done some 'little' favors for me too and is so patient! I'm so picky about tweaks and perks (modules, PHP Safe Mode, etc) on my hosting accounts due to some essential scripts I have, and Ronnie was great--answering or having it done so quickly, and just being nice in general. No "This is done now--regards, support", Ronnie is friendly and treats you like a friend.
I have absolutely no monetary interest in my recommendations--I think this is my third one in the WHT forums on AWH, but I believe I will be with this company for a long time and AWH deserves the recommendation!
jthost 03-13-2002, 11:22 AM I'm not even a customer of AWH but when I was looking to move my reseller account, Ronnie was very helpful and genuinely wanted to work with me. And it wasn't in a "kiss a potential customer's butt trying to get new business" fashion, but more like he was trying to work something out for me - just to be nice.:)
BTW I'm not with them because I haven't moved my reseller account because of other reasons.
I'd recommend AlwaysWebHosting based on my experience and conversations with them.
Change 03-13-2002, 11:55 AM I only hear about Ronnie.. are there other people working there too? To me it sounds like a startup with just one guy working on it.. what happens when more people start working there? Will they give the same service?

What difference does it make? If he provides great service, use it and enjoy it. If, down the road, it sucks, leave. Pay monthly and you're not out any money. You can't live your life worrying about what may happen 6 months down the road. When, and if, the time comes for Ronnie to expand, I'm sure he'll hire good people (there's plenty of them looking for work right now).

I would add to this... I only used AWH for a short time, for a very specific reason (I run a hosting company myself, which Ronnie did not know). When I canceled my service with AWH Ronnie was just as quick, polite, and professional with his replies as he was when I was asking him presales questions.
Change 03-13-2002, 06:07 PM What it matters is that I don't feel like moving my site(s) around every other few months. And I'm sure many others don't. I'd like to get consistency for my money as well. It's just very difficult to put trust in that for a one-man operation.
Maybe some people don't mind who want a host for a small site.. but when you've got a few sites which are adapted to servers for scripts, databases, all kinds of settings etc., then you *need* a consistent service. Especially when your site is successfull..
code_renegade 03-14-2002, 02:26 AM Well, it's a well-known fact that a good number of hosts are all running on rackshack.net servers, but what I really like about Ronnie's services is that he is professional, friendly and very helpful.
Once a server went down - but was up back within 10 minutes. If I'm not wrong, it should be around 7am in the morning over in the USA when that happened, and Ron was quick to jump to it and fix it up. So I guess they're pretty reliable when you need a lot of uptime ;)
Beamer 03-14-2002, 01:10 PM We have been with alwayswebhosting.com for about 6-8 weeks now and cannot fault them in anyway. I have only spoken to Ronnie and to be honest glad i have. He has helped us with every thing we have asked. We paid by wire transfer what turned into a nightmare but they kept faith with us even though it took 2-3 weeks to show.
On a personal note not only do they come across as very professional but we have had some good humour in our emails too. :)
I recommend them to anyone and would thank then for there supports so far :stickout

alwaysweb 03-15-2002, 01:20 AM Hi Again!
This great feedback is really making me blush over here. :D
To answer Change's question, I (Ronnie) am the founder and owner of AlwaysWebHosting.com. At this time it is myself and a systems engineer (who obviously doesn't deal with customers, :) ) and that's it. I'm the one who handles all customer interaction, support, billing, etc. This is my full-time job, and I easily pull 15-20 hour days, and readily accept phone calls 24/7. Its sad, but AWH is my life, and keeping our clients happy is paramount, via great support, great servers, and great prices.
I've been recruiting (albeit privately) for another customer support technician to help ensure we can continue to offer superb service as our client and server-base grows, and you should expect to see another cheery face workin behinds the scenes soon. :D
Well, enough about me. ;-) A special "thank you" to our clients who have taken the time to speak up about our company and services, this is very much appreciated !
Change 03-15-2002, 11:35 AM Alright, sounds okay for now Ronnie. It's admirable to see the amount of work you do :). Good luck with your business.
alwaysweb 03-15-2002, 12:47 PM Thanks Change. It *does* keep me busy, but I think the satisfaction of really helping our hosting clients get everything up and running is worth it. :D
Thanks for your message.
Ronnie
BadBoy 03-15-2002, 10:59 PM I perfer small hosts like AWH,your a customer to them not a "member number" like on other hosts,i also find it nice that AWH offices are about 30 minutes away from my home.
alwaysweb 03-15-2002, 11:40 PM Thanks BadBoy.... < 30 min actually :)
Ronnie
BadBoy 03-16-2002, 06:55 AM Yea just get on the high way and im there,so dont fiddle with my account or ill go bang on your door. JK:nuts:

If they place a 30Gb limit, then it's obviously not unlimited - they are advertising fraudulently.
alwaysweb 03-17-2002, 11:05 AM Hi Matt,
Thanks for your post. We offer "unlimited" disk space within reason (as who can honor a request for 8 terabytes of data transfer/month, etc.)
We have several sites using 20, 30, 40, and even 60/month on our Starter Plan. After 60 GB/month, we'd discuss a dedicated hosting solution. Our hundreds of satisfied clients so far love hosting with us, and understand these reasonable limits.
Thanks again for giving me an opportunity to clear up the situation, have a great day!
BenEDH 03-17-2002, 01:42 PM I am also in no way affiliated with awh, but i have to say that they are the best host ive EVER had (ive had quite a few) ronnie is always online and able to speak with me if i have a problem, and he is always nice :)
also, the unlimited, although not unlimited, is enough for anyone whos doesnt need a dedicated server, so im happy :)

Take my advice and list a hard limit on your site. I'm sure your customers won't complain if they go over their limit, and you do not charge them.
But, imho, unlimited within reason is a contradictory in terms,
Matt

Question: Why not just state, "Up to 60 GB" on the plan then? Seems reasonable and generous to me.
The Laughing Cow 03-17-2002, 03:12 PM Ronnie why not offer 60gb on all your plans or somthing?
60gb for 9.95/month is a bargain :)
Neo3Net 03-17-2002, 03:15 PM Alwayswebhosting.com (Hmm I have heard always good comments).
Good Luck With Them :)
alwaysweb 03-17-2002, 03:21 PM Thanks for the comments Chicken, Matt, and Laughing Cow, they are duely noted. We'll see what happens. :D
Ronnie
bully28 03-18-2002, 05:18 PM This guy deserves a grammy or something.
I just got my sites live this week after suffering through HORRIBLE service and uptime from Aletia, and Ronnie went beyond the call of duty (on the phone, no less) to get my sites live with barely a blip. I call that stellar.
Bottom line: Yeah, all his popularity could strain his resources (and his love life, heh heh). BUT, unlike some other formerly 'great' hosts (Aletia), it seems to me that there is actually a plan to manage growth. Combine it with great service and support, and there's no reason a thinking person would not give AWH a chance.
alwaysweb 03-18-2002, 05:35 PM You all are too nice ! I started my company, www.AlwaysWebHosting.com , with the aim to be the host I *wish* I had when I first tried my hand in web development a while back.... (I created and sold http://www.JavaScriptSource.com to Internet.com a few years ago, does anyone remember this site? haha)
I like to think we're doing it right at AWH, and our 200+ loyal customers in 4 months can't be wrong. :D And, we'll be here for a LONG time, that's for sure!
Cheers to all !
The Laughing Cow 03-18-2002, 08:05 PM Wow it's the Javascript man :P
/Salutes :D
alwaysweb 03-18-2002, 10:32 PM Thanks laughing cow, this one's for you :D

TooFastForYa 03-19-2002, 02:38 AM I must say, I am happy with the service. I had a few questions before I signed up, and I talked with Ron, and he was glad to answer them in a professional manner. When I did decide to get an account with AWH, my account was setup within 5 minutes. Keep up the good work Ron.
RGCPROD 03-19-2002, 02:45 AM I agree his service is the best.I would refer my friends to him.(which i have)
Jezner 03-19-2002, 03:17 AM It's a nice change to see such good words being said about a host. Cheers for earning a great customer repuation.
On an aside, I had a bad experience with an "unlimited" provider and since then, I've been avoiding any sites that offer unlimited service. I did see your services and I passed it up because of it. With such words of praise from this board, please do follow Chicken's advice so wusses like me don't get away.
Anyways, keep up the great service. God knows - from what it sounds - there needs to be more hosts like you.
Regards,
Jezner
alwaysweb 03-19-2002, 03:38 AM Thank Jezner!
We appreciate the kind words here too, they make my day! Well, bummer we missed you. I think a written 60 GB/month on the site is definitely do-able!
Stay tuned, same AWH time, same AWH channel.... :D
Ronnie
alwaysweb 03-19-2002, 03:47 AM << didn't work out, deleted >>
The Laughing Cow 03-19-2002, 10:17 AM In my opinion, If you are offering Unlimited bandwidth then you will attract what I tend to call 'n00b' webhostees.
This client base tends to request the most support and cause the most problems. However if you market limits you may see less signups but they will stay for longer and be more patients.
Thats what I have found.
Change 03-19-2002, 10:40 AM I'm thinking.. if you offer 'unlimited', you scare away people with bad experiences with 'unlimited' (ie, people who used a lot of bandwidth). However, if you put 60GB/m, you don't scare away those but attract people who actually think they can use that. This way you'll have more people on your servers who use more bandwidth, leading in lower averages, meaning you can't offer 60GB/m anymore..
Is anyone agreeing with this line of thought?
--
I just looked at the website and the plans look pretty good and very cheap too. It's amazing actually.. I'd pay more for the services you offer, especially because customer service is so good.
I saw there was still 'unlimited hits' in the plans and 'unlimited bandwidth' in the FAQ btw, you might wanna change that too if you decide to go with 60GB/m :P.
alwaysweb 03-19-2002, 01:45 PM I'm going to have to agree with 'Change' on this one.
We got just a few orders since the change to our home page, when we usually get five times that in the same period (I don't think its just a "Tuesday" thing.
Sorry, but we're gonna be 'Unlimited' again, and will continue to field the questions on "how much is unlimited" :D
Thanks for understanding... and cheers!
Benjamin 03-19-2002, 02:29 PM I am a customer of AlwaysWebHosting, moving over from one of those big, but stupid hosts. I have three of my sites currently hosted on Ronnie's servers, and they've been doing remarkably well. I have always been treated with great support.
I also asked Ronnie about that Unlimited bandwidth, since I was wary of it because of "bad hosts." Although I was reassured, and now I am a happy customer. I will be staying with this hosting company for a long time, if possible.
Thanks Ronnie!
Benjamin
Mester 03-19-2002, 07:43 PM Maybe you could just stick something in your FAQ or TOS mentioning that you have customers burning over 50gb/month no problem. That might save you from answering some of the questions.
I also have a question for you - I know oyu dont allow adult content, but I like to have that as acceptable for some of the banners that get shown on my sites. I'm not always sure whats being shown (3rd parth banenr exchange) so I just like the safety of a host that supports adult content. Would you kill an account for its advertising? Thanks

I sure wouldn't allow it...Many of the adult banners are incredibly disgusting.....
alwaysweb 03-21-2002, 01:48 PM Hi Mester,
You can contact me at ronnie@alwayswebhosting.com and we can discuss outside the forum. :D I'd like to know what banner advertiser you use, etc. Thanks!
cgiGeek 03-22-2002, 12:53 AM I saw there was still 'unlimited hits' in the plans and 'unlimited bandwidth' in the FAQ btw, you might wanna change that too if you decide to go with 60GB/m :P.
Dude I like your Javascript site a lot.
I also know by experience that owners of free sites (back in the day) care more for clients then anybody else.
I also know that all hosts bet on that most users will not
have huge tarnsfers, nad the bet right, but I have to agree with other post here,
unlimited bandwidth is by definition a problem in a future,
also to offer this you may or may not have to cut some corners,
I for one look for stable server resoruces (cpu/mem).
B.
alwaysweb 03-22-2002, 01:47 AM Thanks cgiGeek!
I'm glad you remember the JS site, it was fun for a few years. :D
And, we've set a 60 GB/month limit on bandwidth, and not sure exactly what limit we'll set on disk space for the "Unlimited Plan" just yet.
Talk to ya soon!
Ronnie
Ectoman 03-22-2002, 11:55 PM I've been with AWH for a few months, and the service and quality is great! I highly recommend it!
