Has anyone used online coupons to promote your products on the web?

Will coupons really help to increase sales of our online business?
How to use online coupons more effectively? :)
What are the negative impacts of using online coupons?
Do shoppers really like to use online coupons? :emlaugh:
What are the pros and cons of using online coupons?

Does anybody knows any less expensive shopping carts offer coupons feature? ;)

On a consumer standpoint - I can be somewhat cheap at times when it comes to merchandise. :) - plus I do all my shopping (with the exception of grocery shopping online - Webvan where are you??) Anyway, yes I go to sites a few times like Coupon Cabin (http://www.couponcabin.com/), Coupon Mountain (http://www.couponmountain.com/), and Coupon Code (http://www.couponcode.com/) to start with. For example, I found a coupon once for BevMo that allowed us to save about 25% on some wine. The case of wine cost us about $120 and in the store, it would have been about $200. So online shopping is easier for me.

Plus it is some advertising for your store. People might find the coupon thru one of those sites. Everyone always likes to feel they are getting something a little cheaper. It makes them feel better :) It is more like a game with me - just to see what I can save, especially grocery shopping. Before coupons, the total is about $200. After coupons, it is usually about $120. Now only if they would give a coupon for gasoline. LOL

Thank you Corey,

I remember during our college year in Santa Monica, my roomates and I always collected a lot of coupons from major grocery stores, like Hughes, Vons, Ralphs, and Lucky. We saved a little of money, not much, but just that we could get the grocery cheaper than others.

What I think about the negative impacts of online coupons is that the shoppers will not buy the item and they wait until you release the coupon for the particular item. Good example like shoppers normally will not do big shopping until Christmas sales.

Just my thought!

Well most manufacturer's release coupons in hopes that you will buy their items - especially on something new. And they hope you wil like the product so much, that you will continue to buy the product.

For e-commerce stores, I think a lot of them relase coupons, etc in hopes of getting the same thing. Maybe get a new customer and that customer see what great service you provide. And hopefully the customer will come back again and again.

One of our clients is always have some type of a special. He partners with other organizations and then sets up a special webpage for people to download his audio tapes.

We are all guilty of that in some way, shape of form. I mean - look at a lot of our sigs (including mine) - in which we all promote a "WHT Promotion".

Yes, you are absolutely right, Corey, to use coupon to attract new customers. Thank you :)
And I think you must be teaching e-commerce in the university? :emlaugh:

Don't know if this falls within the parameters of your question because it does deal with finding 'specials' for local sellers.

The site is shoplocal.com. After putting in your zip code you can search flyers for local stores as well as search for a specific product. The site even includes supermarket ads.

It isn't exactly a coupon, but the results are the same.

Storyman,

Thank you for letting us know about shoplocal.com, this is a great site. But I was wondering the pricing they advertised on shoplocal.com are only good for internet shoppers? Or for all internet and walk in shoppers? :emlaugh:

Walk-in shoppers.

In fact some, like Pep Boys, will only honor it as an in-store price. It would be nice if there was comparable site for online specials.

Have you bought anything from shoplocal.com?

I've found a lot of great deals through shoplocal.com, but they all been walk-in deals. Bascially, they have all of the flyers that appear in the Sunday paper--without the clutter.
