Httpd.conf corrupted itself. Only 20% of the original file was still on the harddrive.
Replaced httpd.conf with a backup and all sites are back up but the controlpanel doesnt work anymore.
If I use admin rights to make changes to site settings the httpd.conf immediatly deletes itself again for the largest part.
If the users try to make changes from the controlpanel they get an error msg (no such virtual site nr ...)
Many passwords don't work anymore.
Am I missing something? What other files can be responsible for this. ?

does someone know what file the raq stores the usernames/passwords in?

Passwords are stored in /etc/shadow.
Type "df -h" and see if a partition is full.

I have had this happen before and to date i dont know why it started but for some reason one day when i rebooted my raq4i the postgres database did not start....
when anyone edited a site from the control panel it would try to lookup all vsite stored in the database and create the httpd.conf file...
The problem is if it did not find the vsites it does not add them to the httpd.conf...
so i suggest you check that its starting.

Michael had the right idea. The root partitian was full.
And because it was full the httpd.conf only wrote a tiny part of itself on the hd after being updated.
And oh joy! When I made a change in the DNS entries (the server also being my main DNS server) it couldn't write the changed DNS info so the server decided to throw away all the DNS entries from the /named directory.
I can tell you that the last 24 hours HAVE BEEN MEMORABLE to say the least :(

Glad you fixed it..
I have also done the same in the past, run out of room on the / partition... its not a pretty thing.. what happened for me was when i edited or added a vsite it would write the httpd.conf file susccessfully but the extra bytes it used was making the passwd file smaller and smaller:bawling:

That is exaclty what happened! Added problem was that the email alias database also got out of sync with the controlpanel.
I tossed the towel in the ring this morning and hired outside help. I hired the people from www.raqaid.com and they are currently working to resolve the issues that remained.
at $ 65.- per hour they are not cheap but I can fully reommend them if anyone that has severe technical problems with their raq.
