I got some 1u fans in from rackmountpro today, no papers, just wrapped up fans

they came with the heatsink paste and a small 2" x 2" pad with small foam like "push out" buttons (8 of them) with a sticky side on one side and the black foam on the other

Can i ask..WHAT ARE THESE FOR!!! hehe

on the bottom of the heatsink, i see 4 outlined cirlces about the size of the punchouts

and while looking on the net i found this....

On figure A you can see an AMD Athlon processor. Note that there are 4 rubber pads placed in each corner of the CPU. In document 23.986 above figure 11 it says:
"Also notice how the heatsink sits on the rubber pads. These pads are important to the proper installation of the heatsink, because they prevent the heatsink from rocking and cracking the processor die. THE PADS ARE ESSENTIAL. DO NOT REMOVE THEM!"

In doc 23.986 text 13 is written: "When the retention clip is fully installed, the rubber pads are compressed and the heatsink will then touch the surface of the processor die."

More then likely their just to keep the rentention arms from damaging the cpu, the arms apply incredible processor expecially for something thats housed in plastic or direclty applied to the cpu or board.
