Well, after we decided to jump on the yellow pages bandwagon, I have very mixed feelings about its success. We have gotten a couple of legit customers calling us and finally settling in with us. Not nearly enough to pay back the cost of that freaking ad but hey, customers are good. Anyways, this morning I got a call from a web design and Development company. I answered the phone and this lady is like "Hi, im from so and so company, and we would like to offer your company a presence on the web with our web hosting and develompent technologies!". Im like great! How usefull can this be for us! NOT! So I asked where she got the number from.. "Oh, the yellow pages sir". Obviously not, it must have been a cold call.. we have been getting many lately.. thats about all the yellow pages are good for.. phone spam. Anyways, I turned the phone call around and asked if they needed any hosting or development, they said no, and I said "Well lady, your waisting my time I could be using to help out my clients." That was it. I hate tele-marketing.. I used to be a tele-marketer myself.. I hated that job!

Oh and a couple of weeks ago, I got this call from an old lady thinking we run the internet. Yeah, this site she was trying to visit ( which we do not, nor have we ever hosted ) was down, and she though we could help her out. I politly asked her if she knew whom she just called. She knew alright... I looked up the ISP of the web site she was trying to get and gave her the number. Im strongly concidering not placing an add in the pages this year.. Not only did the YP people screw us around when we origonally ordered add, but all its good for is pretty much nothing.

Anyways.. I don't mean to deter anyone from going with the YP's.. these are just my opinions from our experience.. I think our money is better placed elsewhere.

We decided to splash out for Yellow Pages advertising in our local region last year. Although luckily we didn't start out with a huge ad, we did spend about $500 and got exactly ZERO phone calls from that. Not even one call. I'm very disappointed as well.

In a metropolitan area you just get lost among the throng. Also, most people looking for hosting are more inclined to use the web than the yellow pages. On the other hand, in a small town, you can afford a big ad and dominate the listing for little expenditure.
