View Full Version : Can anyone tell me about this?

Well, I am just wondering about this.

I am interested to get a RaQ3. It cost me around $100 per month. I would like to know, how fast can you guys upkeep this cost and begin to get revenue ?

I know most people start their web hosting services with dedicated server. So should probably have some experience on this and can share with me.

I ask because I am just a student, and might only able to hold the cost for two or three months. I have some experience in reselling, I helped my friend in that before.

So anyone, please help me...

Sorry if my english sucks.

I suggest sharing a server with a friend and you guys split the payment in half therefore you can hold it up double the time from 3 months to 6 months. It usually takes quite some time before you make any money.

Hmm... Well, I meant that I can hold the server without any income for 3 months. So, if there are some clients sign up with me in these 3 months, I might be able to hold it for a longer time.

I don't expect to get profit in a short time, just hope that I can hold my server until I am starting to get profit. But, I hope someone can tell me how long did they use before they start to get profit because I am in the middle of planning now and I need more information to make my plan more successful.

I'd also like some info on this subject. I plan on starting a free web host for targeted sites and will run off targeted CPC in the beginning. Approxomently how long (or how many sites) should it take me to make $25/week - enough to pay off the server?

$25 a week can come easily or it can not come at all. I've seen some companys with the best packages possible but have gone under because nobody signed up.

If your unsure about being able to afford a server on your own email me i could maybe give you some space on mine.

If your a fwp - You'll find it very hard to make any money at first. Some don't even break even after a year ask spaceports.com.

As a new company, if you just design a site and hope the orders will pour in, you'll be disappointed with the results. You need to promote the site in some way.

# months isn't much time, but luckily, if you're talking only $100/mo then then it is reasonable to accomplish breaking even within three months.

You might see that one or two hosts on boards is doing well and figure that you'll get a dedicated server and everything will be fine. I think the 81 hosts that replied to my request to list their site (in the Advertsing Forum) will tell you that you can't rely on one board to float you. Have a plan about what types of clients you are going to try and aquirte and how you are going to get your name in front of them.

Well... The second thing I am concerned about is billing.

I don't want Instabill or others because I got my check two weeks after my customers paid me, and it takes about two months for my bank to process and store the money to my account. And until then, I might already bankrupt:p I think the currency issue slow the whole process down a lot.

But, companies like CyberCash are too expensive for me.

So, is there any suggestion? Or does 4webspace.com include a billing software in their servers?

By the way, technics, are you using 4webspace ? And how do you bill your clients?

And what do you mean by giving me some space? Is it like I buy the space from you, and I design my own hosting plans and sell them? But can I add the accounts myself if it is so?

Thanks for anyone who reply.

Oh, one more question, is it the 4webspace $99 cobalt raq3 only available until 24th??? If yes, then I need to hurry up and order one before my birthday, 24th dec :)

And another more question. Do they allow adult sites on the servers?

I do believe adult hosting is not allowed on their servers, subject to their TOS.

I believe that although you cannot have an adult site if you sign up for their virtual plans, you are ok if you lease a dedicated server.

Also, there are really only two ways to accomplish billing. Either use a service like instabill or get a merchant account. There are other places like instabill with varying rates, but many pay out the same way. Paypal is one that puts money into your account sooner, although they don't have a way to rebill your customers every month.

I don't think Tera-byte has billing software, but even if they did, you'd still need to have a gateway to process the charges. Something like Site5's http://www.billadmin.com/ is probably what you are thinking of? There are also software packages like http://www.digitalpoint.com/products/isp/ that might help you.

The special extends beyond the 24th (Steve has posted this), and please contact Eddie (Technics) about specific prices and arrangements regarding space on his server.

Happy week before your birthday!!! :)

hmmmm... How much does Optigold ISP cost? Is it free for the beginning???

And really? so when do the special deal end?

Yes, I use 4webspace.com and have been very very happy with the service.

Currently they pay via check - We haven't really setup as a host yet as I am still learning the ropes of dedicated. I did used to be a reseller but its a different kettle of fish going dedicated.

We do use paypal right now but only for yearly payments.

As chicken said if you wish to discuss a deal or ideas feel free to mail me.

Well, Technics, thanks for your offer, but I want to learn about server stuff instead of just selling web hosting services.

And Chicken, can you just tell me the closing date for the special? I couldn't found any in the thread you mentioned.

By the way, can anyone back to the main topic and tell me, how fast can you upkeep the cost and begin to get revenue? I would like to know it very much before I get started...

Hi Donovan:

I think noone can figure out when you are going to make money (depends alot on you).

But I can say how I have done:

I started renting a server from 4webspace about a week ago. Before I started renting it, I checked with some local small companies who have websites , and asked them about their hosting (if they were happy, and what they paied ...).
Got some of them interested in moving to my server, and as it looks now, I might make some money after 1-2 months. Just have to prove to them that everything is working OK, and that my company is serious.

That's my story. Remember I haven't moved the accounts to the server yet, but soooon.

/Tobias

At least you tried :) ... Steve said that it wasn't a limited time special and that this was an offer they were going to have around all the time.

As for making money, if you could go out and talk to local businesses and get 5 clients at $20/mo you'd be covering costs. Unless you live in a area that is isolated and has no business base what-so-ever, this is easily obtainable. 5 clients would do it. A couple more via the web, and you'd have seven. It really depends if you agressively market your service and *want it* to happen.

Well, thank you everyone for helping me out. I guess I will make out a great plan first before I start.

It is 23th Dec now. 23 hours and 51 mins to my birthday.

Well, I borned at 24-12-1984 10:36pm .

I just found that this is funny.

Well, look at this.

24 = 12 * 1 * 2
12 = 12 * 1
19 = 12 + 1 + 2 + 4
84 = 12 *(1 + 2 + 4)

and the 10:36pm , is 1:24 before (12*2+1) th

So as a conclusion, my birthday, time, can be replace by 12 , 1 , 2 , 4 this four numbers :p
But 12 = (1+2) * 4, so probably by 3 numbers only.

But I like 12 , because all the last two digit of my birthday, time, 24,12,84,36 , can be divide by 12.

Is it kind of weird? Or your birthday and time can be replace by 4 or less than 4 numbers ?
