View Full Version : slyde.com worth?

Now I know a domain is *only* truly worth what you can sell it for (advice I've given to others), but someone is interested in buying this domain and is asking, "How much?"

You guys have any idea on how much I should ask for it?

I had hoped sell this domain and buy myself a Ferrari to drive around my own island and retire with the profits from the domain, but seeing as how that probably won't be happening... :D

Ok, even you four people who viewed the thread, just throw out your best guess. I need to email this guy back and have no clue of what I should write. If you honestly think $10 then that's fine, I'll just offer it to him for $10. I realize it isn't wonderful, though he contacted me wanting it...

If he contacted you for the domain it has to be worth more than what stargate charges for a year of registration. I would say $20 would be a good starting bid, but I wouldn't really accept anything less than $40 for the domain.

If he really wants it, then $40 is chump change.

I suggest you sell it at www.afternic.com. You should get alot more than $40 for a 5 letter .com domain. Just my opinion

Has some meaning here and there...see it on 3640 google listings including some German listings and a Canadian Rock Band by that name. Otherwise, has moderate value as has no particular meaning and would take considerable effort to make known. On the other hand is 5 letters and can be pronounced easily, although would have to say, "slyde" with a "y". I would say from a low of $20 to a high of around $100 with an average of around $50 in value.

I personally think it has a nice sound...there are hundreds of thousands of available 5 letter names, but few that can actually be pronounced.

I agree with your conclusion here. I think this domain could net you about $50, and if you are lucky $100. Good luck.

Well, replies were a bit slow, so I sent him a quick email saying...

"Email me an offer I can't refuse" - and I doubt I would.

-we'll see if that lands me the big bucks! Should I get a red Ferrari or a black one ;)

Stands a good chance that I won't be able to get one, let alone three :bawling: - besides, I'm actually more of a Porsche man :D

OT: that would be worth a discussion itself. Porsche is more technically perfect, but Ferrari has a heart and a style.

Just for a little perspective, I just sold PetMunchies.com for $90 US today - transfer in progress now.

Check the number of letters (11) against slyde.com.

I believe it comes down to what the people want to do with the domain - not the letter count.

2¢ down.

Lats...

Sadly, my little beast (http://woobster.com/4sale/f_turned.JPG) (here also (http://woobster.com/4sale/side.JPG)) isn't quite technically perfect, but I still like it. Leaks oil like a mo-fo -pity.

The domain isn't bad, it isn't great either. I have one thing going for me. The guy is involved in playground equipment in some capacity (slides), so maybe he'll offer a few bucks. Still hasn't gotten back to me.

I hope he doesn't email back, "How 'bout $10?" :bawling:

I'll purchase it for $20 Chicken. :)

I went to one of those free domain appraisal services at:
http://www.domainsbot.com/freeappraisal.asp

They appraised slyde.com at $35,000 !!

Now all you have to do is find someone willing to pay that :D

Well, I can't do everything!

Best of luck,

Keith

I probably wouldn't have known what that was either, luckily the wildshield helped :D

I also have a SAAB 9000 turbo. Sadly, the Porsche kinda makes every car, even the turbo SAAB seem amazingly slow and under powered, even though it really isn't, heh.

I tried that out too but came up with $20,000. We must have used different values.

Chicken: You should go for broke and ask for at least $1000 USD as a minimum.
Worse case scenario is you sell it for peanuts and it gets resold for $10,000 USD or more. Then:bawling:

Good Luck

lol - astonishing a Fiat, exactly a Coupe Fiat 20V Turbo - the fastest car Fiat ever built. It's a very nice car and cheap compared to every Porsche or Ferrari.
Data without tuning: 250 km/h, in 6.4 sec from 0-100 km/h

I suppose I could try throwing out $1K and seeing if he spits coffee into the monitor (always fun).

Re: Fiats... I'll admit that I thought they went out of biz. I fdon't think they still send cars over here, which might be why I haven't seen one in a long time.

Part of me always wanted one of those little spyders - small convertibles. I still want to pick up another 914 (have owned 2). One day I'll scan a picture of my little 914...

Cars...
My dream would be to have a car for winter with a 4-wheel-drive, something like an Audi A4 V6 quattro (much snow here) and a really nice car like.... Lotus Exige - anybody here knows it? Aaaah :cool:
But my Fiat is a nice compromise - cheap and I drive it winter and summer.

And - what about a Murcielago?

If he approached you then I'd start at $250.

It's a lot harder to go UP in price than down.

yeah, he approached me, and DPerley is right, it is impossible to go up from there, not that it would be more. I also have a bad habit of actually pricing things at the price I want to sell them for. Then people, of course, want to knock it down from what I wanted... bahhhh...

hasn't gotten back to me, but I have his phone number (seached for him on the net, heh). Maybe I'll give him a call and see what's up... then again, he'd probably think I'm stalking him.

Hi Chicken,

Since this guy is involved in playground equipment, you might point out to him that he would probably be able to make it into a registered trademark in the U.S. for playground equipment.

The only live trademark I could find was for a "LUBRICANT FOR COIN OPERATED LAUNDRY APPARATUS." All the others appear to be dead and abandoned.

I believe the name has the following good points:

(1) it's unique;
(2) it's short and sweet;
(3) it's easily pronounceable;
(4) it's auditory connection with playground equipment is apparent;
(5) on first examination, it can most likely be registered as a U.S. trademark for playground equipment; and
(6) it has the potential to be developed into a major asset for the acquiring company (after all, what is the name "Coca Cola" or "Kleenex" worth to their respective companies.

I know you probably won't be buying that private island with this sale, but if he calls back, it's good to be prepared. (Okay :blush: Yes, I was a boy scout).

Best of luck,

Keith

Damned...how much do teachers in California make :D?

I'm jealous, when we got our new car last year, I looked at the SAAB 9-5, and reaalllly liked it. But the job market being what it is, I opted for the Ford Taurus, that way I always knew I could afford the payments :(.

Not enough! :D

They aren't all that expensive. The SAAB (though it was bought new), is an '87 and can be picked up for around $2,500-$5,000 used, and the 911SC goes for around $11,000-$16,000 used.
