Hey Guys

I have a situation where my web hosting client's ISP is blocking Port 25 and not allowing him to send mail from his SMTP Server.

He wants me to recommend a Dial-Up ISP. I dont use Dial-Up so I don't have a preference.

I prefer a big company with toll free tech support.

Who are some of the best dial-up providers ?

He's willing to pay $19.95/month ... and he doesn't want AOL ... does anyone have experience with MSN ?

The only thing that is certain is that the ISP MUST allow relay of email from domains they don't host.

Any input would be appreciated, im supposed to call this guy with a recommendation in 2 hrs.

Thanks!

! JC

theres a lot of 'open' smtp servers out there. why not just tell him to use one of those?

I'm not sure what you mean by Open SMTP's ?

Is this a free service that some people provide ?

Could you give an example ?

Is it reliable?

Why not just make your computer an SMTP server?

That's what I use for my personal e-mail, however I'm looking at upgrading to their new professional plan (only $30/year). I've used SoftHome for about 3 years I think (free since the beginning:D )

Since no one's actually answered the question... :D

I used MSN for a month, however they kept trying to con me into getting DSL, almost succeeded by artfully not mentioning several additional charges I'd be receiving, and then they mistakenly cancelled my service and took a day or two to get it back up. So I left.

I'm now with Earthlink, who also made a stupid mistake by charging me when they shouldn't have, but they refunded it right away and I havent had any problems since. Their connection is a bit faster than MSN's, and I use their SMTP with my domains with no problem.

I used the IrishAbroad (http://irishabroad.com/Members/ISPWelcome.asp) service for about four months and was very pleased with connection speed. Rarely had a dropped connection or busy signal. Unlimited access for $9.95 a month.

I recently gave in and got a DSL connection. Otherwise I'd still be with them.

I strongly recommend using a local, in-your-own-home-town ISP. Mine only charges $17.95 unlimited. It's also nice because you can drop by their office and chat with them and they'll go out of their way to help you with something. Much better service than you'd ever find with a 'biggie'. Before I went 'local' I'd used AOL  and MSN  with nothing but long distance phone numbers available to me. That was nearly 7 years ago so they've probably at least improved that part by now.

thanks for the replies ...

I went with a dial-up account from RCN ... who bought Erols.

They allow mail relay and everyone is happy.
