I was given another RaQ3i, which did not have any hard drives. I bought two HDs, but the problem is that I do not know how to restore a HD that is blank.
How do I do this? I tried the "normal" method, but when the RaQ3i boots up, I only get blocks on the LCD, not the Cobalt logo, boot from, etc...

Ummm I would think if the HD's are all setup via CMOS etc then it would just be a matter of running the system restore disk.. I know they sell them on ebay for about 40 bucks or so.. If the HD's are not being detected I would suggest you go into CMOS and run autodetect or whatever you CMOS offers. I do know that raq's do have some type of HD size limitation I think it might be 30 gig.. Do a search and you should find it..

You again? ;)
The restore disc will format the drive as part of the normal restoration process. Trust me.... just today I restored 3 RaQ's with 30GB drives that were brand new out of the box.
Slap 'em in, kick off the restore CD, and away they go....
BTW, the blocks on the LCD sound like you forgot to put memory in? That's what happens when no RAM is present. Don't throw anything at me....Couldn't hurt to suggest the obvious ;)
PM me if you have any other OS restore issues, I think I've seen 'em all.

Doh!
It turns out that the IDE cable was twisted and not connected properly.
It is now restoring properly.
