I have recently started a web hosting business and I have a couple of questions. Eventually I will want to rent a dedicated server so I can be more competive and profitable.

My first question is do I leave my existing customers on my virtual server or do I move them to the new dedicated server?

And if I move them to the new dedicated server what steps do I take (if any) to let my customers know if the change?

Thanks In Advance

The best way would probably be to give your customers an option of moving to the new server. Let them know that it is better (if it is) and coax them in to letting you move their web sites _if they want_.

Make sure you let them know first! :)

Just contact them all and let them know that there will be a slight downtime, because your are upgrading to better servers to provide them with better services. I am willing to bet that most of them will move to the new server. Hope this helped :)

Give them 2 weeks or so notice, then offer to do it all for them, however, I would make CERTAIN that you have everything working to your satisfaction on the server, before you move any clients. I would highly recommend moving over your own personal sites, before anyone paying you money. Be the guinea pig yourself...

I started hosting because I thought I might as well host the websites I was building. Most of my customers have no clue what I am doing just that their site is up and working. I buy the domain names and set up hosting and upload their site and they pay me. :)

So I have no tech support issues at the moment because my customers have me do everything. So I should I even let them know that I transferring them to a new server?

I most definetly will make sure the server is running smoothly before moving clients. I will also ask any clients that I acquire over the net before I just move them.

Anyways Thanks Again
