View Full Version : Having trouble getting SSL

I signed up with Gearhost just over a month ago. I have not had any problems with them EXCEPT I just can't seem to get them to add the SSL that they say is "pre-installed" when you sign up.

I was told, and here we go with their "one week syndrome" again, that they were re-doing their SSL so that it would be easier to use and would be ready in about a week (I know, I know, what a joke)

So I had been patiently waiting. I then requested that they set me up on their SSL server the way it is currently set up. I don't care HOW it is set up, just that I am able to use it!

Again, I got the run around that their NEW SSL setup would be ready in about a week.

I just sent in a support ticket asking for it to be set up again. That was last night. I have not received an answer yet.

Oh yeah, I even emailed DIRECTLY to Ryan about it a couple of weeks ago and requested a response. Never got it and I have not yet been able to get through on the phone other then their voice mail.

I am wondering if they even have SSL set up at all? Is anyone out there using Gearhost set up and using their shared SSL?

UPDATE:

Finally got through to Gearhost today. Spoke directly with Ryan. He's suppose to find a solution to my problem and get back with me today. We'll see.

Apparently their NEW SSL won't be ready now until April, but at least I found out that they do have shared SSL

Thanks Jaimie. However I need Windows as my shopping cart software is entirely ASP based and I didn't purchase the Chilisoft version to run it on unix.

I am going to give Gearhost a chance me since I have not had any other problems with them and I really don't want to have to move again so soon. For the most part I have been happy with them, though I am going to have to move if they can't help me.

But why is it that all the other good webhosts I hear about just offer unix and not Windows hosting too?

I have visited several recommended webhost sites I have read about in the postings only to have been disappointed.

Frankly, Windows sucks. We started offering Windows hosting a while back, due to popular request from our customers. It soon became a nightmare. Licensing fees, support issues (FrontPage mostly), security patches (wayyyy more than Linux), reboots, reboots and more reboots. It just wasn't cost-effective to continue to offer Windows. I have a dozen Linux servers and have NEVER had the amount of problems I had on one Windows machine.

Okay...here come the "Windows hosting is great if you know what you're doing." police. :D

Hi Lisa

No probs.

I did get into a bit of trouble with Chicken though (one of the mods) because I had tried to offer help.

O well.....

Jamie :)
