View Full Version : Whatever Happened To Rackshack.net
Hello all,
I tried doing a search but didn't find what I was looking for. Basically, I want to know what happened to Rackshack.net I've read positive comments regarding their service a while back, but their site is of no more. Why's that?
I apologize if this topic was talked about before. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
richy 03-11-2002, 03:12 AM sites up for me. decent company. cheap and you dont get hand holding. they havent been the best for reliability but its growing pains hopefully. the company has heart and is trying to change things. if you know your linux then go for it. if you havent been beyond a cp before and dont have plenty of time and the liberty to learn then dont.
Im reaching the site just fine myself.
We have been with RackShack nearly a year and have no complaints.
Really? That's odd! The URL is www.rackshack.net, correct? I certainly hope so because I'm getting the "Can't find www.rackshack.net. Did you intend to go to one of these similar Web addresses?
But you guys are telling me it's UP. D'oh!
Ok, guys, now this is really weird. I used both browsers, Netscape & Internet Explorer, and they both can't find the site. However, when I tried using AOL's browser, www.rackshack.net shows up.
Now, this may sound really dumb, but let's just say that I have a dedicated server with rackshack.net, and I wanted to block my clients from getting accessed to the company above me--would that be possible?
ToastyX 03-11-2002, 03:33 AM Sounds like your DNS servers couldn't find the address temporarily. AOL's browser uses Internet Explorer. Anyway, no matter what you try to do, there's usually a way to figure out your upstream provider, and you can't control what someone else can or can't access.
Ok, thanks for clarifying that for me, Toasty. :)
Question for Haze: I checked your web site (resell4less.com), and I noticed you mentioning having your servers in Clifton, NJ. FYI, I live about 15 minutes away from Broad Street in Clifton. ;) I never knew there was a data center there.
So, do you like have one dedicated server in Texas (rackshack.net) and one in Clifton, NJ?
Wish you the best of luck with your biz.
coight 03-11-2002, 04:33 AM We have no complaints either :)
richy 03-11-2002, 04:44 AM you might want to wait till after the 13th and their ground breaking raft of announcements tho :)

I don't know where in the world you are, but some hosting services block the IP ranges of certain geographic locations (usually ones that have a high risk of fraud). This could explain why you can't get through with one Internet connection but you can with AOL.

We use RackShack for our budget web hosting service ( http://www.iminbudget.com ) and we currently use VDI.net, which is located in Clifton, NJ. for our premium hosting service ( http://www.iminteractive.net ) and our resell4less.com business.
Devorius 03-11-2002, 08:08 AM When you use AOL's browser, it goes through the AOL proxy. If use an independent browser, it doesn't. Hence the reason it connects with AOL's browser but not the others.
avara 03-11-2002, 09:24 AM Is there any possibility that your IP's are blocked by Rackshack, or that that your ISP's DNS servers are a little flakey?
I don't see why my IP's would be blocked by Rackshack. Anyway, don't worry about it, guys, I'm sure it's no big deal. ;)
greggish 03-11-2002, 04:29 PM I haven't been able to connect to rackshack.net since I started using AOL dial-up about 2 months ago. I posted about this then and I still can't get to the site even after trying many different phone #s. I wonder if Rackshack knows that many AOL users can't get to their site.
ukspace4u 03-11-2002, 04:33 PM Probably a dumb comment here but i clicked on your link to rackshack and also got a website not found but this was because you put a comma in the link after the .net however rackshack.net works fine, i am a reseller ona rackshack server and have had no probs so far
ukspace4u 03-11-2002, 04:34 PM oh sorry i also forgot to say i use AOL and i can access it fine
jamenjaw 03-11-2002, 07:33 PM hrmmm...
I think it has to do with adult screaning some times sence the word(or words) rack and shack are some times linked to porn sites make shure you have that truned off or if you can alow that site to be viewed.
